i went to tune my revo. its basicly my first time doing a major tune up.

when i adjusted the high speed needle everything was fine. i went onto the idle cause it was a little high. i had to turn the idle clockwise to lower it witch isn't right and then when i did the low speed i leaned it cause when i did the pinch test it took a long time to shut off. so i turned the low speed clockwise to lean it but it was acting like it was getting richer so when i went to shut it off to come in and post this it started like driving away when i pinched it.

any one know why my revo is all messed up?

and when i went to start it my EZ starter motor was going but the flywheel wasn't spinning and the motor wasn;t going like it was supossed to. i seem to have bad luck.

if the ez start motor was spinning but not the engine it could be the plastic gears that get spunn by the ez start motor, if all gears are good check your one way bearing it might be slipping(change it), you should put your needles at factory settings with a new glow plug, fire it up, lean your high speed maybe 1/2-1 turn lean your low speen 1/2-1 turn also. when you lean your low speed you want it to take off quick but not so quick that it starts bogging out, if it takes off too slow then its too rich lean is clockwise rich is counter clockwise. the high speed needle is the same exept its for the high speed, so get it to top speed & see if its too rich or too lean then adjust.

thanks but it doesn't help too much. how come when i turn my low speed clockwise it richens? and when i turn my idle clock wise it lowers the idle speed?

yeah. I'm gunna try and fix it today. i hope i dont screw anything up to badly lol.

what happens when you over turn the idle screw(making it all the way out)?

thats it i give up. lol. every thing is fine when i do high speed but as soon as i touch the low speed the idle goes haywire. i needed to lean the lowspeed cause i didn't get any punch when i gave it the gas. when i leaned it it would lirk forward when it was idleing and i mean it wanted to move at like what full throttle would be. so i lowerd the idle but then it would die out! i am either really really really bad at it or my revo is just being ***.

I'm gunna see if i can take it to hobby town and see if he can tune it. maybe he'll help me learn how to tune better or sumthing!

did you check your idle screw if it is not properly set they can be a b*tch to start and i mean its not fun at all. When i first got mine i had that same problem but i checked the idle srew a bit and now it works like a charm.

well i reread the manual and i relized there are somethings i can do that might help but... i dont know it it will work so I'm probably gunna end up taking it to hobbytownusa.

thanks guys.

Don't pay someone to do it. You have to learn it for yourself. It just takes a little practice and it will come naturally to you. You'll have to retune slightly every time there's a change in temp or humidity outside, so get some knowledge. Here's a good guide for you. Print it and keep it with you when you need it.

thanks for the help and i tried again and i got it kinda. i reset my optidrive and made sure that the carburator was closed. i got the high speed all set and same with the low speed. there is a nice trail of exhaust when i drive it and when i pinch the fuel line to shut it off it runs for like 2 and a half seconds then it speeds up and dies. the only thing i have trouble with is the idle. it lerks forward and when i turn the idle down it shuts off. the only reason i can think it would do that is the glow plug is bad. I'm gunna try switching glow plugs.(if i have any)

yeah put then its too low and it dies out. it makes me really mad.

When you adjust the LSN or the idle, not all engines will respond instantly. adjust it just a hair, and give it 10 or 15 seconds to settle in before you decide to adjust it more.

I am not sure what you mean by lerks or lurks forward. Are you saying that it moves forward at idle unless you apply the brake?

That is what I was thinking. I had the same problem with my Revo even once I got it tuned well. I solved the problem by installing the replacement clutch shoes from Traxxas. The replacement shoes come with a slightly stronger spring than the one that ships with the Revo. This results in a slightly higher stall speed for the clutch which solved my problem. Here is a pic:

If you do go that route, you will have to remove the engine from the engine mount. I would strongly recommend using a ball type 2.5MM hex driver because the 4 screws are quite difficult to get back in without cross threading them. Here is a pic of mine:

I learned this the hard way and had to buy a new engine mount which I believe was about $40. The hex driver was about $15 but well worth it since I have had my engine out several times since with no problems.

yeah. thats what i mean by lurk/lerk. I'm hoping to get it fixed so i can drive it today.

cool. if i dont get it working today then i might see if i can go get the clutch shoes.
