i have an s maxx and would love reverse. i found this ebay auction on a reverse transmission out of a revo, so the ad says. i want to know from others that have this do i need just this transmission or do i need to buy a servo to control it. it looks like it has a wire that goes to the servo control box. i have a 3 channel reciever so would this plug into it and need a servo. then i would need a 4 channel servo. any help or comments would be appriciated

you dont need a 4 channel radio, they come with a 3channle from the factory, and to be on safe side you need a opti drive, it keeps truck for being able to shift into reverse while still moving forward. also need a servo for rev.

but the big question is on the trans
The REVO trans is different that the S MAXX

Adding opti drive and reverse is asking for headaches. These are the first items that people ditch due to the problems they cause. Reverse weakens the tranny substantially, due to the extra parts and added rotational mass. I've never read anything about the opti drive that's positive.

my original revo still has reverse and the optidrive ...and i never had problems with them ...and i dont drive it like an old man ...i dont care if a break something :D.....took the optidrive out once ....was a bad thing to do ...ended up with a runaway truck with dead batteries

optidrive will prevent it to shift in reverse while driving ....and also acts as a failsafe for low batteries ( revo manual pages 11 to 13..) most people say its not a failsafe ..but it is ..and i learned it the hard way to

Good info. The revo trans is much different than the t maxx. This is my first rc without reverse. This was just a thought i had since it would be nice when you bump that wall and not to have to walk 1/4 mile to get the thing to turn it around. I probaly wont do this now. I guess i will just get used to it the way it is.

I must recant my previous statement. I have officially had a problem with reverse. Well, the opti-drive anyway. I was losing control after high speed runs. Charged the truck, replaced the batteries, no change. Bypassed the opti-drive, and viola, no more run away truck!

The opti drive in my revo did'nt work....I saw it and heard it when it got shifted from reverse to forward at about 10mph...did a good wheelie and the trans made impressive racket....still running it...but reverse don't work...and sometimes i think i hear quirky trans noises.

Any guesses on what's broke in there? The servo linkage and the pin it moves in and out are fine and working on the outside. If it turnes out to just be a 3$ gear I may just put it back and be super careful shifting...but if I tore up a bunch of stuff I may look at the forward only trans kit. Never been into a trans before.

The reverse gear set is the weakest part of the transmission. If you don't absolutely need reverse, install the forward only conversion. I had my reverse go out shortly after I got my Revo.

Is there any info on the forward only conversion in these forums?

It's a kit from Traxxas that includes what you need to do the conversion along with decent instructions.
