Well Gang, I've run in my Revo using the standard procedure.
All went well with run in no majopr issues or problems with that.

After run in i took my revo out for a run to attempt to tune the engine,
After about 15 mins razzing around a bit I found myself struggling a little to find the optimimun point for the high needle setting. Any tips on knowing when it's running at it's best ??

Then disaster, the car ran off slightly to the left and was heading for a wall so hit the brakes and the car flipped, the toe in/out bar on the front right hand side broke, sheared at the thread at the wheel end, punctured the tire slightly... gutted.. so next day off to my LHS to buy replacement, hoped to buy the hop'd up toe in/out bar but he was out of stock so had to settle for the standard version.. fitted with no problems, whilst at it added a touch of toe out to try to give me some more stability under braking...

So ok fixed and ready for next run, this time we decided it was time for a raz around on some grass, so local golf course was the chosen venue, got the car started and proceded to rip around the grass, oh no disaster again... Ran it through a pile of leaves, underneath the pile of leaves was a huge chunk of wood (basically a 6 foot log), crunch, dead stop and a sickening thud..

Major damage had occured, i felt sick... after taking it back to the mobile garage ie: the boot of my car for inspection I found i had damged the front bulk head on the right hand side part no.5330 along with a broken pin part no. 5321 (the long one that goes through the top of the top arm and the push rod on the right hand side Part no. 5318
.. I uprated the push rod to the red trx 7075- t6 and the rest of the parts were only available ib standard....

What a mission to fix, never having taken anything like this apart before i was a little daunted but took my time and managed to get the whole of the front end apart without too much hassle, had a major nightmare with the replacement bulk head as couldn't work out how i could fit it in with the steering servo saver underneath the car... the replacement part had two peices of extra plastic which were in the way of the servo saver... i took me around an hour to figure out that these peices had to be removed before fitting.. WHy are they there?? seems a bit misleading to leave parts on peices when they are not required... Only looking at the exploded veiws helped me to work out what was wrong... So after a good three nearly four hours i managed to get everything back in place and reconstructed...

I now know how to take the whole of the front end apart and put it back together, quite enjoyable actually.. I think half the fun of this new hobbie is the tinkering and repairing when things are not wrong or get damaged..

Now I do have a few issues/questions..

1: Is it ok to refill the tank whilst the truck is still runnning...
2: What's the best way to get more stability ? (getting a fair few rolls both on grass and concrete)
3: How do i know when i've got the high speed needle in the right place ??

Oh one more thing.. Last night on doing my after-run procedure I made a little bit of a schoolboy error... I put a couple of drops of air filter oil down the engine hole instead of after run oil.. I added 6 or 7 drops of after run oil after i had realised my mistake... Is this likely to do any damage to my engine...

Think that's it for now, needless to say I am enjoying myself if not with a few headaches but that's all part of the fun as far a i can see..

Hope you can help me out with my questions

Cheers guys

Brian

Well it seems like you have most things under conrol!

First question, it is very OK to refill the tank while the truck is still running. Just make sure you push on the lid of the tank so it is tight before you take off again.

Second question, the best way to get less rolling is to go with the P2 rockers, the lower the truck and make it more drivable.

Third, can be a bit of a tough one. You want the truck to rev up nicely, but you don't want it to overrev. I guess the best way would be to make sure it is still smoking all the way through the powerband.

I don't think you did any harm putting air filter oil in the carb, because the air filter oil gets into the engine anyway when you are running it. Don't worry about that.

i agree with vbgagnon. just make sure you have good smoke without the engine seeming to load up with fuel. I'll add one thing, though. just in case the lhs doesn't have the p2's, you can also try just lowering it by moving the pushrods to the outermost hole on the control arms. you might think about investing in a good temp gun, too. it will help a lot with tuning. good luck!

P2's as the others said and move out to the outboard holes. My arms are parallel to the ground when my truck is sitting on the ground. Also look for the lines on the base of the roll bar. Those lines are indicators for where you can cut the roll bar down and it will allow you to lower the body. First line, one hole down on the body posts, second line, two holes down on the body post. It may not seem like much but it will lower your CG ever so slightly. The 2.5R can be a bit tricky and while everything you'll read says to run it in the 240-250 degree (F) mark mine rarely ran there. I use a temp gun but really just for a reference and would watch for the smoke trail. As long as your getting a good smoke trail being a little hotter isn't going to hurt. The OS .18TM is another story, it stays pretty tight in the 240-250 range but that maybe something down the road for you. Watch the wide open runs for long periods of time, the high revs for long durations is killer on your mill. As far as fueling, that's how we do it on the track. The quicker you are though the better. 1 it keeps the engine from loading up, 2 it if you take too long to fill you'll loose that head pressure. And you should be fine with oil, a couple drops isn't going to hurt.

I have now dropped the push rod arms out to the outer holes as you have suggested.. Will let you know how it handles when i get to ru it out again...

Probably tomorrow now..

Does giving the truck a little toe out help with handling...??

Seems to have helped as i've already done it but not sure if that was something else i altered (incorrectly by the way) i moved the x rings on my front shocks so the springs were under more compression and that dropped the front down quite a bit... have now set them back to the standard 87mm as i have read that they should not be tampered with.....

Is this correct or not... Are there spacers available to put the springs under more compression to drop the ride height at all.. ?? am i barking up the wrong tree here or not...

A little confused..

Brian

Not sure what are you are talking about when you mention the shocks and the settings, but since you have moved the position to the outer hole, you should see a difference. Also, more toe out will give you faster steering response. Try adding toe in to teh rear. It will give the rear more bite for better acceleration and some added straight line stability.

As to your tuning question, hard to tell from here if you are getting the most out of that mill. If it responds well to throttle up to and past half throttle, and is leaving a light smoke trail up to full throttle, you are probably dead on. If the smoke is real heavy and your temps are low you are too rich, most likely on the HSN side.

Further updates

OK, took my truck out for a good run today...

Everything shock wise is now cool, handling much better.... even managed to get some good air out of a few jumps nothing major yet but still was quite a buzz seeing her take off and land perfectly and continue onwards..

Steering is responding very well now and I seem to be getting control of the truck, couple of rolls and wipe outs but nothin to excessive..

Gave it a dirty hill climb challenge, probably around the 55-60% mark and very rough terrain too and it coped beautifully with it..

Also ripped her round a very bumpy public park car park, clay based with plenty of small stones and roling bumps, stayed in a straight line as required and absorbed the bumps great..

Having a small problem with tuning still can't seem to get that high speed needle quite right as running at what seems to be a quite high temperature but still trailing slight blue smoke but not all the way through the throttle only about 3/4 throttle, so think i will have to drop the needle bacl a touch to richen slightly..( any suggestions welcomed)....

Next up will be the low needle setting, Is this just for the quicker pick up or will this also adjust the idel speed of the engine coz it sounds too quick in idle for me, although it's not trying to creep forward but sounds too high in rev's altough i do not have a bench mark to go against...

Also adjusted the brakes, via the little grey wheel, must have turned it sometime without realising coz the brakes were somewhat lack luster before, but turned the wheel clockwise and left about an 1/8th inch play in the brake disc so there's no drag and the response from the brakes is now awesome..

Thinkin about some Hop Ups now, just placed a bid on the RPM cooling head protector, think i will hop up the rods too, although one set already replaced on the front after that major crash the other day...

My brother lost a wheel nut today on his car, LOL .. so tht brought an end to our outing, as he had no spares.. was quite funny though watchin him run full pelt down a hill after his wheel....

Also found that dogs like to chase ya car, until ya smash into their legs....

This is such fun. enjoying the hobbie imensly.. Two weeks in a totally hooked... So much so thinkin of buyin another Nitro.... I like the look of the Jato... Any thoughts..

Brian..

P.s My missus has promised divorce if i get my truck a little brother or sister..

Failsafe problem ?? Help

Howdy guys,

I would really like to put a failsafe on my revo, just to be sure i don't lose it and smash the thing up unneccessarily..

Problem is my LHS won't sell me one coz he reckon's there's issues with it interfering with the optidrive unit... I spoke to Traxxas UK and they tell me the same thing..

Is there any way i can get round this, is there a failsafe that definaltey works with the optidrive... What can i do to get around this...

Appreciate any help you can gove me guys..

Bri

I ran a failsafe with mine before I did FOC. You may have a light blinking on the stupid thing but that is about all it will do. Besides, tell him (LHS) it's none of his business what your putting it on!
