My son sold his mountain board on Ebay last night bringing his rc fund over $600. More than enough for the Revo 3.3 he's been saving for.
He wanted (begged) me to take him last night to get it but I told him it would have to wait until today.
I told him I would let him skip gym today and I would pick him up at 1 to go to the LHS.
When he got up this morning he said " Today is going to be the longest day of my life". I told him don't worry, he's young.Wait till he gets married. Plenty more long days ahead(lol).
I'll take some pics of the track him and his friends are clearing.
Well, I'm off and running!

That's awesome that he was able to come up with the funds on his own for the rig.

yeah thats great. and even better hes getting the Revo 3.3 I've heard nothing but good things about that rig. he will most definetly love it. good for your son and for you cuz I'm sure daddy will play with it too hehe.

make sure you get the battery and charger for the EZ start system because it doesn't come with it!! or buy a pull start when your there. otherwise your going to have one mad little boy lol

man i bet he is counting the minutes....my 14 year old son will not get into rc..if its not skateboarding its not cool...well maybe my 2 year old will get into it with me.tell him congrats on getting the revo 3.3

Wow, that's just super that he's getting it on his own. It WILL be a really long day for him, but one that he'll remember forever.
I wish him the best with his AMAZING new purchase. He'll be the proudest kid around. Well done.

Good luck to you both! Like always, I'm here for ya if you need anything. I'm proud of him for saving up and using his money to buy it. His lil buddy that appears to be a total moron could definitely learn some stuff from him.

+1 on Rolex's post; it's always awesome to hear about a kid saving for something they want and doing it the honest way.

To add to Mattyfats' post; you may want to pick up a glow starter for it too. Even if he still uses the EZ-start, that blue wire is a headache-maker. Just pull the blue wire off of the glow plug and tape it off (or use some heat-shrink and a zip tie, which is a better way). The end result is starting it will be a LOT easier.

I've never seen a 13 year old so excited. I had the guy take it out of the box and charge both the electic starter and the truck before we got there.
We needeed to buy a gallon of Traxxas fuel because otherwise the engine warrenty would be voided.
We got it home, fired it up, and only had time to run tank one. It was getting chilly out (40*). So I told him we could break it in tomorrow. It's supposed to be a great day here. He wasn't happy b ut, hey, this isn't a democracy here. Daddy still rules. For now.
He started a new rc fund for parts and wants some part time work for his addiction.
So far this thing is amazing compared to the piece of do-do that we have now.

Nice!! Glad to hear that a 13 year old kid found himself a hobby that help you builds up patience, and that is LOADS of fun, and good choice of trucks, those trucks can take a hell of a beating...my brother in law as one with a Picco .26 in it and DAMN its fast!!! Good Luck with the truck, and have FUN!!:)

OMG!!! What a difference from my Exceed rc. This thing is a tank. I can't wait to get it broken in. Today is sunny in the 50's. I've been authorized by my son to do the slow tanks for break in but not the final tank.(lol)

yeah. He wants to play when he gets home so I told him I would do the boring stuff and break it in.

yeah that is great man. glad to hear you and your son are having a good time with a revo. mine is only a 2.5R but man it plenty for me right now till i get the hang of handling the beast. than ill probably move on to an OS 18 or 21.

man wait till you start buying parts for it. he can start a fund from now untill hes 20 and still wont have everything there is or wants lol

just wondering how the break-in is going and how your son likes his new rc

The break in is done. When my son came home from school I had him change the air filter and clean, oil and bag the used one. Take out and look at the plug. Tighten all the tires. Look it over for loose parts. I want him to know that this is a MAJOR part of it.
Then his buddies came over and he took it down to his track that they are working on. That thing is incredible. What a beast. He ran it for almost 2 hours non stop. Checking the temp in between. He said "no way anybody is driving this but me" when one of his buddies asked if he could try it. He told them to save up and buy one (lol).
When he got to the house after running it for 2 hours, he thought he was going on the Xbox 360 with his buddies playing COD4.
Wrong.
I told him what we had done before was to be done every time after using it. I was shocked. No argument. In fact his friends helped! They took it out to the compressor, blew it all off. Changed the air filter and prepared the dirty one again. Checked it over for lost, broken, whatever.
He loves it. He can't wait for his friends rc to come.He bought one on Ebay.
Life is good at 13.

You might want to order some extra airfilters, because you don't want to keep washing the ones you have too many times. The veterans seem to reccomend 3 to 5 washings, but you'll be able to inspect it and see when it's time to replace it. I like to keep plenty on hand. Also, if you haven't done it yet, stop by the motorsycle shop and get a HUGE can of foam air filter oil for 5 or 6 bucks, much much cheaper and spending 5 bucks on a lil bitty RC bottle.

man thats great that he is learning all the maint.needed and doing it.i wish my son would get into nitro but all he wants to do is skateboard...well he is on a team and does pretty good.he is sponsered by a couple of companys and gets free boards and clothing...so i can't complain he stays out of trouble.just spends alot of time at vans skatepark!

well you and your son are of to being rc addicts like the rest of us

Luckily I do have the cleaner and oil already for his dirt bike but I do need to order a dozen more elements.

One thing I learned. You can't make a kid do what he's not into. Sounds like he's doing great skateboarding! Count your blessings.
