would a 3.3 output gear work in a 2.5 revo transmission?

The main difference between the cases is the 3.3 has mounting points on the outside for the rear brake assy. The gears are interchangeable if I remember correctly.

Yes it will work. I took a brand new grey 3.3 trans and swapped all internal gearing into my 2.5 revo and made it forward only. By doing so it made great improvement on speed and response. Also better and quicker shift point into second gear.

It replaces the gears with a single fatter primary gear and shaft.

It also removes the Y that slides the primary and reverse gears and the shaft that come out of trans to connect to reverse linkage. It shaves weight and additional friction from no longer needed moving parts in the trans making it a more reliable and better performing transmission. You will notice a good difference in general.
