I would like to get reverse back on the used revo I just bought. It has rear brakes, a slipper clutch(I think), and of course has been converted to forward only. First, where could I find instructions on installing/uninstalling the FOC, and second, will I lose the rear brakes or slipper to do it?

You'll loose the rear brakes, sounds like it has the center diff in it.
There is no need for rear brakes unless it has a center diff. Go to Traxxas's website. All the Revo info you could want and then some is there.

yeah taking out the FOC with the center diff and rear brake is like taking 5 steps in the wrong direction.

i know some people like to stick with the stock tranny gears cuz they dont like the center diff/rear brake set up. but putting in reverse means you need to re-install your opti drive system. and that would suck. i would say stick with it, take out your rear brake and center diff if you need to but putting reverse back in would be a big mistake IMO.

but if you want i did a FOC on my revo and still have all my gears and optidrive stuff on there. just make sure you still have your stock TQ3 reciever for your reverse servo and you should be alright.

Traxxas website will have all the info you need to repair anything on the truck.

keep us posted on what your going to do, cuz it might end up being WAY more trouble than its worth to re-install your optidrive system and reverse gears.

I agree with everyone who said not to put reverse back in. I just put an FOC in my 3.3 two days ago. Wish I did it a long time ago. The truck gets off the line with so much more pop and shifts so much more smoothly. I haven't changed my tune at all yet and the temps are fine, around 200. Having the FOC in there makes for much more efficient transmission. Don't do it man. Don't be that guy!

:hehe: Thats pretty funny!

What are the problems with the optidrive...for whatever reason the truck came with 2 of them(among the spare parts). I just figured that the reverse would ease the pain of learning to control it. I am completely new to RC. I have the tranny on my desk staring at me right now. can't I always go back to forward only? Are the center differential and rear brakes going to prevent break downs? I'm not really worried about performance right now, just learning to drive.

Thanks for the input.

the center diff is more made for racers who are looking to improve the cornering and such of there rigs.. But especially if you dont know what your doing your going to want the FOC I blew 6 sets of reverse gears and most of them was because the opti S**t fails miserable at what it is suppose to do.. PLus my battery lasts ten times as long without that and the reverse servo

The opti drive is so over rated it's funny. if you really want the reverse on your rig, well, it's your rig and you can do it. When i got my revo i was new to nitros as well. I didn't make the jump from opti drive with ez start and reverse to FOC all at once. First thing I did, after a while, was take off the ez start and opti drive at the same time. Once I knew my engine wasn't a pain to start, I switched to a pull start and began using a glow plug ignitor. I left reverse in at that time though. As long as you don't hit the reverse switch on your transmitter while your truck is moving forward you won't have a problem with your reverse functioning properly. Last but not least, yes, you can go from FOC back to reverse back to FOC anytime you want. It's alright. You'll see a difference in performance but you won't do any damage to your truck at all in switching.

The center diff makes the tranny much more durable. It relieves stress that a regular tranny cannot. But this is where setting the slipper clutch properly comes into play as well.
Difference between the regualar tranny and one with a center diff is the ability to wheelie. A center diff makes it almost impossible to wheelie the truck.
A stock tranny or one with a FOC will wheelie easy with a proerly tuned engine.

I've just seen 6 people, that are revo owners, say that its a bad idea. if your new to RCs. like we all were at one time in our lives. I've never been steered wrong from anyone on this site when it came to opinion questions.

just trust us when we say it will be more of a pain than fun for you to do that. like i said before. taking out the center diff/rear brake is one thing. but installing reverse again with optidrive, is a big mistake IMO. and youve got alot of people to back that up.

i just dont want you to be as frustrated as we once were because of the opti drive/reverse system by Traxxas.

but please keep us posted on this. its going to be a pain in the butt to re-install the gears and optidrive module

Good points, I came here for good advice and I think I will leave things as they are. Thanks for the info.

you wont regret it my friend. no one will steer you wrong here, and if they do, theres people to fix that also. so your in good hands here. there has never been a problem or suggestion that I've put on here that i havent had answered properly and fully

good luck with your Revo!
