It hasn't even been a week since we had the lhs repair the broken reverse gear. We were looking forward to C. Andrettis 1st race on Sunday. I got a call Saturday from C telling me that he "fell" while running the truck and accidentally shifted it into reverse. Now it won't go in reverse and makes a hell of a noise in forward. Needless to say there was no racing on Sunday. This time we (he) replaces the gear not the lhs.

lol that sucks yeah the noise in forward is the reverse gear teeth floating around in there

go to ebay to get your gears WAY cheaper the tranny is easy to fix but make sure once he puts it together that it spins freely if ne little thing is a hair off it will bind and that will get ugly real fast and the opti shift is junk ditch it for a forward only or ceneter diff if your gonna be racin

Yeap I agree on that one. I'm not a Revo expert by any means, but I'm going to throw out an opinion. Traxxas went to the opti-drive module to save weight and still allow the revo to have reverse. The gear is probably going south because of the lightweight gears, and just a hint of abuse is all it takes. Since he is going to start racing, I would install a Forward only conversion FOC, or even better a center diff with rear brake. If you can go the center diff route and install the rear brake, you will be able to adjust the front to rear brake bias to handle best depending on what track he is on.

Forward only will be a tough sell to lil Andretti. He loves his reverse.

I just did the foward only conversion on my revo. The truck had no running time on it at all. I have all the gears needed for reverse if you are interested. Make me an offer.

Well it's either racing or bashing and you can't have both.

You tell that to a 12 year old.

"I have all the gears needed for reverse if you are interested. Make me an offer."

I appreciate the offer. Let me dig in and see what I need. If it's the same as last week, the gear was only $9.00 and the lhs is only 20 min away. I'll get back to you.

Since reverse is not allowed when racing, maybe you can disable the optidrive module like can on an ESC in race mode. Then when he's out bashing so hard(hard enough to destroy reverse two week in a row,) he could put it in race mode and he wouldn't have to worry about throwing it in reverse while still moving forward, which apparently is what happened when he "fell"

Like I said I have never run the optidrive, but I know when racing electrics you have to put the car in "race mode" and lock out reverse, so it may be possible since the revo was designed to race as well as it bashes.

i thought the optidrive was there to make sure the truck didnt shift to reverse while going forward.. guess it dont work that well huh

Yeah I know the parts were pretty cheap. I wasn't expecting much for the parts. Basically just something to cover shipping.

Well maybe the optidrive is glitching or something and causing the problem, once again just a suggestion since I've never used opti-drive and don't know how or why it does what it does.

there ya go, a nice scientific explanation. Seems to be more of a problem when showing off the racing, so he might want to unplug it then too, but knowing C, he'll want it wide open engaged all the time. "Why have reverse and not use it?" "Why drive slow when you can go full throttle" sound familiar there, Dad?

Absolutly Charlie. I thought Optidrive was there to keep it from shifting into reverse while going forward too. Of course I haven't had the time to sit lil Andretti down to actually see what's up in the tranny. What would the benifit be of getting rid of reverse? Does this conversion kit make forward stronger or is it just that there is one less thing to break?

Traxxas says the FOC adds torque handling capacity to the trans and increases acceleration because of less rotaing mass.

Like I have said before the reverse probably did not last much past break in on mine.I installed the FOC on one and the Center Diff on the other and never had a tranny problem again with either truck.I use the FOC one to bash because the Center Diff does take some fun out of it but the center diff is great on the track.

I do miss reverse but hey who doesn't want to have their cake and eat it to ?

I have heard that the FOC actually makes a noticiable difference in performance along with making it A LOT stronger. I think if you explain to lil andretti that getting rid of reverse will actually make his truck a lot faster and stronger, and that all of the professional racers have done this mod, he might go for it. I haven't used rever 5 times out of a gallon and a half of fuel on my maxx, and when I start upgrading it, that will be the first to go.

The only reason I'm keeping reverse in mine is because I have yet to have a problem with it. Plus I like being able to back out of a situation rather than running over to it. First problem I have though I'll probably do the FOC.

i installed a FOC in my revo and yes it was great. i still have all the reverse gears and optidrive in a little baggy. let me know if you want them. pay for the shipping and its yours. i just think that the optidrive sensor went bad in mine thats why it didnt work. all the gears are up to par

edit i forgot you have the 3.3 i dont know if 2.5R is the same set up as the 3.3
