I just got my savage 25 today, its got a red x on the bottom of the box. What is this all about, could it be a model w/ the one way bearing backwards? Do I need to change it or is it ok....feedback appreciated. Thanks.

Jason:breakdown

The red X means that HPI has threadlocked the backplate on the engine. A lot of people had issues of the backplate being loose and toasting the engine. It is recommended that you still do a physical inspection to make sure everything is tight.

Yes the "Red X" is supposed to mean that HPI put on thread loc and propperly torqued the back plate at the factory, but it is highly recommended that you remove the motor and have a looksy for yourself, better safe than sorry, in one case a customer actually found a nut in the carb of his brand new savage.........fresh out of the box! So yes a good inspection is always a good idea since this isn't one of those cheap, cheesy Wal-Mart wanna be R/C's

bearing

is the one way bearing ok then? ill double check everything on the engine and chassis too, better safe than sorry. thanks every1

I'm sure the one way bearing is fine, you just wan tot be sure everything is ready for running.

Um, red X's are on EVERYTHING shipped from HPI recently, if not on the kit, it's on the case of kits. The last 3 cases of HPI products we've got have red X's on them. Sitting here is a case for Micro RS4's and there is a red X next to the part number on the case and on every kit.:wtf:

red x

Everything is good on the backplate, good and tight. the savage didn't come w/ a battery or charger for the rotostart, i spent 100 bucks for it. 20 dolla battery and 80 dolla ac/dc quick charger. plus it can charge two batts. at once. haven;t started her up yet, will do today after work, ill let yall know how it goes. does this come pre-tuned? i need to check that too b4 i start it up.

If anything, the motor comes with factory settings, supposedly. If I were you, just make sure they are at factory settings for break in. Then you could start the tuning process after the break in process is finished. Buy a temp gun for the temps. Much better than the spit method.

Yup, temp gun is going to be one of your very best investments, cost about $40, the settings should be good from the factory, just watch it on the first tank as it idles, it may want to increase it idle speed as it gets warmer, you may have to adjust the idle screw a little to keep it from idleing up to wide open

yep

i noticed it was idling up quick after it ran for a few minutes. i bought the onboard temp box from venom. paid 25 for it on ebay. should get it w/ next couple days but I'm fine for now using my hand to feel the heat. its runnin cool now :radio: :redbuggy:

My Savage 25 had a red x on the box, only to find out HPI put the roto start on backwards.

How did they put the roto start on backwards?? That doesn't make sense. Did they put the one way bearing on backwards is that what you are trying to say??Later

For what its worth,
I heard the red X is an inventory mark. They recently shut down for a day and did a complete inventory of the warehouse.

Thanks, that's why they are on everything!

Indeed, No argument here.

It seems HPI likes red pens...

If you look at ALL HPI products shipped in the last month they have red Xs on them not on the bottom of the box but on near the part number or the UPC tag and / or / on the master cases the boxes are packed in.
In the case of the Savage backplate the mark is on the bottom.

I believe we are observing two different issues.
Arnt Forums great! We all learn new things every day.

I thought the red x's on my cases of micro rs4's was for tightening the backplate.:wtf:
