I've got a laptop which motherboard has bitten the dust. The laptop was running Windows Vista and the user had his profile password protected.

I've taken the drive out and installed it in an external enclosure and hooked it up to a XP machine. The XP machine can see the data but not access it "Access Denied". I've tried taking owner ship of the profile folder but that doesn't seem to have any effect on it.

Anyone know a way I can get this users data off the drive and on to his new laptop?

I had to use another Vista installation to take ownership of the files as an administrator. It's kind of a pain, but it did work.
