I'm having a hard time figuring out if these skid plates will fit on the SS (without too much mod).

This one looks cooler, they're both pretty cheap.

Plastic seems like it might be better because of weight and flexibility.

I eventually want to get a roll cage too and I'm having even less luck finding compatibility info on that. Also, it seems like most of the roll cages don't protect the engine head.

What about this one? http://cgi.ebay.com/hpi-savage-x-br...ryZ34063QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Honestly, I bought a skid plate for my old savage.. I never used it. I never got into anything that call for a skid plate to be used.

rpm makes a skid now, imo rpm is the best.

also the roll bar that comes with the x is supposed to be compatable with the older versions, and it protects the head.

THe last link looks like a wannabe cage..

Spend the cash and get a RC Solutions cage.

The second link is the skid I had. Never used it. I don't grind my RC's like a skateboard. Best thing to get is the cage. RC Solutions roks. PM ScottM or look at his forum thread here.

I used the Integy one and had no trouble with it. It's pretty light, and bolts right up.

It's a help when your dog bones pop out.

I wouldn't get an aluminum skid since it will just scratch. Just make your own out of lexan if it's that important to you. I think if your suspention is set right though, there is no need.

Scratch?? I guess that would be a problem if it was a shelf queen, but most people here don't really put that much concern on esthetics.

No kidding, look at beason he's alway's a good example. Scratching is just a part of having a r/c.

My savage already has plenty of scratches =).

A few people have recommended the integy and I think it looks the coolest.

One of the reasons I want the skid plate is to prevent at least some of the dirt and rocks from getting up in the underbelly. Is that dumb?

Does this offer any real protection?

I'm looking at getting one of these myself. IMO, the stock aluminum one did jack for me; I'd scrap my engine head if I flipped, and the whole darn thing disintergraded when I did a back flop. I would guess with this nylon one, I wouldn't have scratches on my head, and I would also still have a functional rollbar/handle.

I had a New Era skid and tank guard on my 4.6, nice fit and very stiff.

Well what I meant was, I think the RPM would be better since I would only buy an integy part for astetichs. As my favorite signature ever said, "Would you fly in an airplane if Integy made it?"
