Hey guys,

My savage x 4.6 took a bad landing on hits back bumper. It cracked the fuel tank but it also seems to have done something to the receiver. It runs sporadically sometimes, throttle holding even after I let off the trigger, steering gets wobbly. I can't find the stock savage receiver (HF-2) on their website or any of the hobby sites I frequent.

My question is, should I get a stock one from ebay or should I go for a better after-market? Does a receiver make that much of a difference?

Have you checked to make sure that the connections didn't get jarred loose?

If you do need a new one and if you just bash,I'd just stay stock or whatever I can find cheap.
Make sure it's the same frequency.

Yeah, I played with all the connections for both servos, etc. It still does the same thing. I'm going to try using my father in laws since he has the same savage. If that fixes it, then I know it was the receiver.

Seems to be that my crystal keeps going bad. Could my receiver be causing my crystal to break, like from a short or something in the wires? Or is it just cracking inside from jumps? Its a stock crystal and I've broken 2 of them, first was from mine and 2nd was from my father-in-law's savage. He is using an after market, so maybe I'll try one of those with the next one.

They most likely are not "breaking" they are blowing out. Most likely you have damage in the receiver causing this. Could be a bad ground but more likely you have a short somewhere in the receiver.

Did a little receiver research (I am a Amateur Radio Operator) and it seems that you might be experiencing what is known as front-end overload. Basically you have an electrical problem that is overloading the receiver and blowing your crystals.

I would suggest replacing the receiver asap.

Bummer, nobody around here sells stock HPI. Have to order one through ebay then.

Well, could it be the On/Off switch or the batter connection? I don't want to replace the receiver if its one of those...
edit: I can't even find those parts available anywhere. What are you supposed to do if you break the battery box or the on/off switch? They don't even list it on the HPI website.

I'd look on ebay, I picked up a new radio box and switch out of an xl for just over $5. Good deal I thought

I had to pay a little bit more than $5 but it was still a good deal. Receiver, controller, and crystals for $23. In the mean time I borrowed the receiver from my wife's hpi drifter and it worked just fine. Had a nice bash session out in the desert behind our housing developement. I'll post video tonight once I finish editing.

EDIT: Video is over in this thread https://www.rcnitrotalk.com/forum/showthread.php?p=678803#post678803
