Rear Diff problems - What really is the deal?

hey blue do you have a link for the 4 spider diff mod? i'm having trobule finding it? thanks alot crash.:bling:
 
I just did it using the kyosho shafts placing fuel tubing over the ends before lowering them into the diff cups. This should keep them somewhat cushioned and not damage the channel like plain metal would. I also packed mine with axle grease instead of silicon oil so they shouldn't leak. I also added hd output shafts and cups all the way around to further beef it up.
 
i am have a huge problem with my rear diffs. I have gone through so many now it is rediculas(sp?). I am going to try the 4 spider gear mod with 7000 wt oil. and if that dosent work, I'm gonna spool it. I tired of taking it apart. I just want to be done with it already.
 
make sure when working on your diffs that you use fine thread screws when putting them together the self tapping screws come loose letting the oil leak out actually the new design one's from hpi are fine thread some oil will still leak past the o rings but not as much.
 
I saw those and was wondering that myself. The Maximizer ones are nice but at $50 a pop I think is a little steep. These look quite similar to both the stockers and the maximizers, and at only $12 a piece.
 
I hope they do, cuz i wanted to upgrade to metal diff cases but 50 bucks is just too much for me to justify. I think they might not work though cuz the diff case from the savage has a bearing that slides onto one side that sits in the diff housing. the bottom of that diff case is sitting flat on the ground, nowhere to slide a bearing onto. I could be wrong, thats just what it looks like to me.

I think it will work. All the diff cups I found on the net for the Monster Pirate have a nipple on the end for a bearing. Next time I order from tower hobbies I think I will take a chance, hell it is olny 13 dollars. The part number on tower is LXCBB3. If anyone orders one before I do let us know if it works. I won't be ordering until next month. But if it works I will post it.

Yea try it and let us know. That would be so cool if it worked. I would buy them in a heart beat if they did. You could almost get 4 of those for the price of one of those maximizer cases.

Mcvickj, well after several months of trying to deal with HPIs customer service they finally came through. I just got a complete brand new diff in the mail. Only two months later, and wouldn't you know it, the sets of gears I ordered just arrived too. I think they know the diffs are built like poop, but they just won't admit it. IMO not the best customer service I have ever had, but at least they finally did the right thing. It pays to be persistant, now I can finally get my Savage back up and running, nearly two months later, thanks to HPIs lack of parts support for the diffs, and mediocre customer service. At least I will have a complete, 4 gear modded diff as a spare in my box now.
