I am rebuilding the 2.5 on my jato, and was wondering if anyone had some advice on how to get the rear bearing out of the housing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Take the motor (case) and place it on your wife's best cookie sheet and place it in the oven at 350-400 for about 15 minutes, then grab your wife's best oven mitt and grab the motor and kind of shake it, sometime you get lucky and it will fall right out, you may have to come from the other side though and tap it with something that won't mar the inside of the case if you miss, like a dowel rod or something similar. It won't take much effort though once you heat it up.

Or you can use a heat gun with the engine held in a pair of channel locks. Tap the back side of the engine against a wooden block straight down, and the bearing should just fall out.

Wifes best baking pan and stuff sounds perfect considering she is leaving me and taking my kids to ohio with her. :( Thank you guys for the info, very much appreciated .

Don't forget her best caserole dish for parts cleaning! Sorry to hear what you're going through, try to laugh a little, it probably won't help much but......... anyway

Thanks guys, I try to laugh as much as I can. Tried backing it in the oven, do you have a temp or length of time? I did 375 for about 20min. and that thing still wont budge. Thanks again guys for the support.

Is the front bearing out? You may find a socket that will fit in there with the front bearing out and give it a wack

i found it easier to take out the front using a big drill bit (very, very careful, of course) and knock out the front. heating it will help. then i asked the very same question about the rear bearing. i used a stove (my mom said "nooooooooooooooo way, not the oven"). held it with lockable pliers, heated it and got the chopping block, clean rag on top, and a little tap. if it wont come out, like jet says, you use a dowel and tap it out from the front.

i didnt want to let the engine heat up too much (I'm afraid it might cause problems). remember that the engine runs at max of about 300?

but 375 for 20min should have been hot enough. bang it a little harder (give it a little knock on the sides as well, it may loosen it a bit).

Eureka!!!! I got it !!! I went and got a torch from wal-mart and heated up the outside of the casing. Bearing fell right out. Thanks guys for all the help.

No problem amigo. Too bad any cookware wasn't involved, but glad to hear you got the bearing out.

be careful with using torches and guns...the oven is good because it heats the whole case evenly9More evenly than the torch anyway)....I take the case as soon as the bearing falls out and dip it in water to evenly cool it too....

whoa! you dip it in water? wont that cool the engine too much? its like splashing water on a hot engine... i let mine aircool. it should be relatively even and would slowly cool the engine.

it's usually about 150 (I can usually hot potato it) by the time the case is out of the oven and I dip it....I guess it's more so I could start handling it with out mitts faster...
