Is it true that the RC10GT is an obsolete nitro, and parts are very hard to come by?

Tom

OMG no! The GT is still one of the premier ST racing platforms. There are tons of parts and hopups that you can get for it. Where did you hear that the GT was obsolete?????

MY LHS. I am looking at getting the Team version of the RC10GT to try my hands at ST's and I wanted to go 2WD to get a hand at how they drive as apposed to 4WD and I heard the RC10GT was like the priemeir 2WD ST. So it still would be a great buy?

Tom

Oh heck yeah. As far as I know, Associated hasn't made any attempt to replace the current GT line. Take a little time to browse Tower Hobbies and stuff and you'll see there are tons of parts available for it. Usually when ST's compete it's between the GT and the Losi XXX-NT. Those seem to be the best on the market...

The GT has one of the best backed parts lines in the RC industry... Almost every hobby shop carries stuff for them!

The RC10GT is on an aging platform and what your LHS was letting you know that in regards to racing there are better trucks on the market such as the Adam Drake II. Parts can be found virtually anywhere for the GT but it is on its way out the door for racing.

Actually Assoc. already has a prototype to replace the current RC10GT as they are clearly behind Losi in the ST Nitro class. A local (Associated Spons. Team Driver) at my track was running the prototype new Assoc. truck....the car has a lot of similarities to the Adam Drake II. However, it drives much more like the T4 Team truck which is a good thing. Actually Matt Francis (Losi Res. & Development) was also at the track to get a good look at the new Nitro truck for Assoc. Assoc. always seems to be a couple steps behind Losi. So yes, the RC10GT is on its way out but it does have lots of parts still available.

So the factory team GT would not be a smart buy for me at this point, I should go with something else? The Drake is nice but graphite which is good... but light and I don't think for a newbie that would be a good ride... so I have read. Any ideas?

Tom

Well it depends on what you want to do....race or just bash...if you want to just bash the GT is fine but if racing is your game then you would be better suited in the long run with the AD II. I can tell you what breaks and what parts you need to keep stock of....just a couple.

Well I am always open to ideas. As well as advice. I know the GT is tried and true as well as a tough truck. I am only looking to club race and nothing more, actually more of a combo bash and club race deal. What parts would I need for the drake? Is the drake as good as the factory team deal ie Ti turnbuckles, alumn threaded shocks.... Thanks

Tom

The rc10gt is one of the best stadium trucks out there and the parts are fairly easy to get.

If your not racing and want 2wd seriously look at the traxxas jato.

if you plan on doing club racing then the availability of parts for the RC10gt is best and you can just tweak the setup and have a blast..........

The Drake is definately a performer but the Graphite breaks real easy when you crash.....I still have a bunch of spare graphite arms for the XXX-T and I don't even have one anymore....for the money you'd spend on the team version ot the GT get yourself a buggy....way more track oriented and (IMO) easier to drive on the track....way more power to weight ratio as well.....

I agree with all of the above....

Yes but he said he wants to try 2wd,which means he has a 4wd?
Go with the GT. It is still a VERY good truck and will do well club racing. Much more durable for bashing than a Drake.......You dont always HAVE to have the latest thing if your club racing and bashing. If you find you LOVE the ST racing then go all out for a dedicated race truck. Just my .02

Is the Factory Team GT more durable/tougher than the AD2? I keep reading that the AD2 has been beefed up a lot, but it's still graphite.

I think the FT GT is carbon fiber? Is it as brittle as graphite?

Thanks,
Ras

the AD2 has been beefed up but quite a few parts break on a regular basis like the rear pivot block....I have 4 friends with the AD2 and all of them keep the rear pivot block on hand and the rear hub assembly tends to wear out pretty fast as well and is a $$$ part.

Right on the money PSUNitro. I do have a couple of 4WDs. TMaxx and XTerm Pro 1/8 Buggy. All the guys posting have valid points and alot of great info. That is why I love this site so much. Alot of great feedback. I don't have alot of money and I don't need the latest and greatest. I am just looking for a really tough and reliable ST that has a bunch of parts and hopups available when I break something. I had an old electric RC10 many many years ago, and it was a tough truck back then. Just wanted to get into 2WD without breaking the bank. Just want to have fun... which is what this sport is all about right? :)

So what I am getting is that if I just want to club race and bash... then the RC10 will do... if I want to get real fancy and buy the best then the Drake is the way to go? Thanks again guys.
