what can i use to strip off the colour on a rollcage other than sanding ? it is purple now but thinkin about striping it down to the shiny alluminum........

Greased Lightning works really well. You can find it by the gallon and spray bottle at Home Depot. Just use a tray or bowl and dip the parts in for 5-10 mninutes at a time. Wear gloves and rinse the parts afterwards with water. You will also want to put a coat of polish or wax on to help keep the aluminum from oxidizing.

Here are some before and after pictures in case you were interested.

The square pieces are just some braces that I made to learn my new trade. They added quite a bit of weight onto the cage, I'm guessing about 1/4 to a half pound. For bashing they worked to prevent the cage from bending but the handling suffered quite a bit from the raised COG. The cage body mounts were ground off. I ended up making a body mount holder that used the stock plastic mounts and the rear used the stock body mounts.

I no longer have my Savage since it was adopted by Monkey Wrench. I do miss it quite a bit, very fun to drive and was tough!

Nice work on the extra pieces SD.

YEah Greased lighting works awesome. Try not to breathe it in either. poop burns in the throat pretty bad.

i picked up some whileago & put the cage in..........had to take it outside cause this stuff has fumes.........after the colour comes off ill wash the cage down & dry it good........i got some clearkote i can spray it with so it keeps its shine or should i just use wax.......

Yeah Greased Lightning and Mothers aluminum polish work great.

SD those are pretty cool, I never would have thought of that.
