u can't. RB Concepts and other top line engines understand that hp and torque ratings can be skewed to whatever the manufacturer wishes. this is why RB uses the star system. to give you an idea - the standard 3 port V12 is about as powerful as the following engines:

Mugen MR12
Novarossi S3
Sirio .12 TRP 5port turbo

for big blocks, the standard .21 S7 Europa is about as powerful as the following:

OS .21RZ(VO1B)
REX P5
Hyper 8 port (RACE VERSION ONLY)
CMB .21 EVO2


you can get an idea for performance that way, and then go from there using the star system to see what performance gains will be achieved using other engine makes.
 
NA, not trying to be an ass, but the standard S7 does not touch the Rex or Nova P5. For that matter, the WS7II needs alot work with the clutch and pipe to equal the bottom end of the P5. I would say the top end is about the same.

The Rex version now uses the same crankcase and bearings of the Nova version. So the only difference between the two now are the color of the head. That's why the price of the Rex has gone up over the past couple of months.
 
i have done tons of laps on my track with another buggy using an older REX P5. i pull him on the straights every time
 
I have ran them both and tuned them both. I don't doubt that you are pulling him. That says A) he doesn't know how to tune an engine or B) it's time for a rebuild on the P5. I'm not putting down the S7, it is a fine engine, but it does not have the torque nor the top that a P5 does.
 
What kinda life can I expect out of a P5?

Novarossi makes the P5. Rex is made by Nova and they have a P5 also. Just type in a search on the web for either of them and you should find several places. There are some good prices on ebay for NIB P5's also.

interesting, so FRS you feel from your experience that the P5 has more up top than the S7? I've always read that P5's are very strong on the low end but no one realy talks about its top end, or at least i myslef havnt read about it. and RB's are usualy talked about as strong mid/top end mills. reason why I'm wondering is I've seen the NR P5 for 235$, and the S7II for 239$. ill be having a storm pro in my hands soon..and have been researching on a quality mill for it for about over a month now, and have narrowed down to a S7/S7II or a NR P5, as I've found it for very good price. all info i have is off the internet, as there isnt a track yet (but will be this spring) in my area and no one has a buggy at the bash spot but me (that is changing soon also!) so i have no first hand experience with any of these mills.
 
With the P5, the top end usually comes alive somewhere in the 1.5 gallon range. The reason you mainly hear about it's low end grunt is b/c it is that much more impressive than most other engines straight out of the box.

Where did you find the P5 for $235?
