Ok so I'm in tenth grade and i have computer class everyday. Theres this kid that sits next to me and all he does is lie. I kinda think its funny becuase i was telling him about my t-maxx and it was nitro and hes like "yeah i had one of those all i did was run it and all it did was break". and "there no fun, there a waste of money" at this point i was pissed. i know for sure he didnt have one so i kept asking him questions about it like what kind did u have and he said "i dont know my uncle got me it". and everytime i asked him a question about it he would always say "i dont know all i did was run it." and hes sayein he has better things to do like sit in his backyard and shoot at animals.. he has no idea how much work goes into these things and not just money. I told him if he had one and saw how awesome it is and belong to a forum like this he would want one. and hes like no there peices of poop and money pits. It just makes me mad because you try telling people about these things and they dont know nothing about them and think they do. they think there just toys. so it pisses me off how so many people are clueless about these and all they care about is how fast they go and not how much work goes into them. sorry guys...just had to rant

Don't sweat it man. R/C isn't for everybody and you won't be able to convince every kid who wants to be "in the know" how great they are. Maybe he just wanted to "one up" you for 5 minutes. Believe me... there are A LOT of people in the world like that. The entertaining part is when you realize that it doesn't stop in 10th grade. I know people that are well past 40 that STILL play that game. Pathetic really, but there are all kinds. I've attempted to drag a couple folks into it with me but sometime you just need to realize that not everybody is willing to give it a go. They may talk about it with you, ask you plenty of questions, seem excited and maybe even ponder the idea of buying an r/c. However, many will pass because it's just not there thing. Sometimes I wish I had a bashing buddy but at least I have Rolex to pick on :)

avoid the kid that abuses animals....

on second thought, make really good friends with him. Seriously though, it's just his opinion, don't sweat it.

I can just picture Rolex standing over me with one hand leaning on a cane while the other is waving a finger at me while using words like "wippersnapper" and giving me the "when I was your age...." speech.

LMFAO, ding sing sing, we have a contender for the one liner of a year here. Great one Lessen.

Ajames, not everyone likes playing with little toy cars as much as we do. A lot of people aren't into RC. There's several reasons, but one of them happens to be what I believe to be one of the strong reasons, involving people who try it and don't like it. My theory is that there are basically two kinds of people who try RC's. The first kind of person is the one who drives a friends RC or maybe gets one of their own, and when it breaks they cry and pitch a big fit, want to have it repaired under warranty, and talk about how much junk they are, regardless of the fact that they were driving it 60mph and attempting to jump over 7 school busses. The second kind of person is what we have on this site. The run them just the same, but when they break, the person is thinking "What parts do I need to ge this fixed, and how can I make it stronger and faster at the same time?"

well if he said "all i did is run it and it breaks" then it sounds to me like he definatly had a traxxas lol.

I think the real root passion for most of us probably stems from a passion for cars in general. I've always been a "car guy" but not necessarily a "gear head". I've always had an interest in cars in general but I was never the kid who worked on the old Nova in the garage on the weekends with my dad, cuz I never had one (Nova or dad). At any rate, I think car folks are more likely to get involved in R/C's because of the extreme realism to there full scale counterparts. Real working internal combustion engines, transmissions, differentials, electronics, fuel, paint, springs, shocks... on and on and on.... R/C is a budget car guy's dream come true.

lmao, Llyod I was thinking the exact same thing. It sounds like he had an original maxx or the 2.5 before the big revision.

Lessen you're exactly right. I got into RC's the first time because I was buying a racing type 4 wheeler and the dealership also carried RC's and gave me a free T-Maxx. I was appreciative but I wanted to build it, so I bought a Savage at the same time. I had too much money, illegal substances, and women to focus on them and I gave them away after building the original Savage SS. The when I got my act together later and was working two jobs to get through college, I had to make a decision to focus on racing or college, and I chose the later so that I could afford to race for the rest of my life. While I was pissing and moaning about how much I missed wrenching on my camaro and my 69 Chevy pickup that I did a frame off restoration on, I remembered those RC's that I had at one time. I got a T-Maxx, then a Savage X SS, then I won the baja, and the rest as they say, is history. People think I spend a lot on my RC's, but the fact is I'm saving a lot of money. When I buy a new RC, it's usually less money than it takes to go drag racing one weekend, and it lasts for months (well years, but I usually sell them before that lol).

Sheesh, kids today. Miserable punks.
The sole purpose of the cane is to beat the snot out of you young whippersnappers.
Lessen, when I was your age I was 27.

Austin, one thing I can say from just talking with you on this site. You have an appreciation for this hobby that most kids you're age could never have. Probably like Lessen said, it comes from being interested in cars in general. You obviously know how expensive this hobby can be (especially since you get to buy a new motor:D) and you seem to want to learn and take care of your rig............. I guess 'taking care' of a rig is in the eye of the beholder............. but it's rare that someone your age show the level of interest in this hobby. I think most kids want to do like the others said, run the rig until explodes and then bitch about.

Yeah, the kid that sits in his backyard and shoots animals just for something to do is a scary person. (I'm not referring to hunters, I'm a hunter and wouldn't do that) Many of them end up escalating the violence to a human level.

Yes i absolutly love cars in gernal, I'm not getting my learners permit untill June, and I'm already looking everynight at cars.com and ebay motors and cragslist. It just this kid pisses me off in a way i cannot explain. Not like pisses me off that i wanna go out and kill somone just like a way it annoys me. and I'm pretty sure he doesn't sit at home and shoot animals becuase i dont know who in there right mind would let there kid sit outside on the back porch with a gun while having a newborn baby in the house. My dad step dad works with this kids dad and everyone they work with you mention there name and they give you a disgusted look and says he just like his son lol.

Listen sometimes its absolutely useless to try and change some peoples minds. I spent what seemed like forever when I was in High School trying to convince my parents Marijuana wasn't bad for you with no success. He is obviously Bullshitting you he might have had a friend who beat the sauce out his truck and never maintained it. I guess what I am trying to say is its obvious you really enjoy the hobby so who cares what anyone else thinks.

YOU WOULD BE SURPRISED THE KIND OF PEOPLE IN PENNSYLVANIA, TRUST ME I KNOW.

Unfortunately, there are many parents in the world today that are too absorbed in their own little world and don't spend enough time with their kids. I bet he really does sit in his back yard and shoot animals, you'd be surprised. I'm quite sure he gets his attitude from his dad, sounds like it anyway.
You'll run into people that just piss you off to no end for the rest of your life. The key is to figure out a way to coexist with these morons and make life somewhat tolerable......... and if you can figure out a way to piss them off every once in awhile, I say "more power to ya".

I used to sit around and torture innocent animals. However I grew out of it and I've since moved on to better things. And I have 60 acres to hide the bodies of those better things =devil

Thats just plain wrong lol:D:D

I'm not trying to change his mind I'm just trying to get him to understand how much work they are and how fun they are. And they are just not plain toys you would buy at walmart and that they are alot of fun and there really is nothing like it when your out bashing your rig. I'm not saying there isnt anything better than running these becuase I'm sure there is. lol i dont know why it bugs me and it shoudnt be but it just does.I told him i was going to the local amusement park to bash it with a guy who has an HPI Hellfire and a Baja 5B. (BTW this guys BAJA RIPS. It has a turbo on it and when you full throttle it you can hear it kicking in). I know it seems like I'm making a BIG deal about this but I'm not. I'm just explaining how people are.
