my savage 25 has the stock radio gear in it and it is alwalys twitching. when it does this the throttle or steering doesn't move by itself or anything but its anoying to listen to and it always has a noise, is this normal? i was wondering how hard it is to update the radio

For the stock AM radio some noise is normal. You may be getting a little interference from another radio source. If you decide to upgrade to an FM radio you may get a little less interference than the AM, and your signal range will improve.

We don't know what your budget is, but a good starter radio upgrade is the JR XR3i or the Airtronics MX-3 for $150-200. The prices go up from there along with more features and adjustments.

The spectrum stuff is very sweet. I just got one for Christmas.....it come with some JR servos....which appear to be stout......but I just hooked up the reciever to the stock servos and it works great....no chatter at all.

Hope this helps your decision.

The twitching and noise you hear from the servo can be attributed to a coupld of things...

1. It is normal for stock radio sets to be a bit less stable than an aftermarket equivalent and show signs of interference from other radio signals in proximity to yours (that could be anything from cell towers, power lines, other RC radio sets, etc.)

2. You may have something loose in the connectors.

3. You may have some loose metal to metal contact in structural components (usually the engine mounting is the culprit). Any time metal vibrates against metal in a very high frequency, you get a magnetic field that can interfere with these things. Loctite is your friend...snug up the loose screws and apply loctite where necessary to keep them snug.

4. Any wiring that has been rubbed down to bare wiring can cause this, but is more than likely going to cause a short in the system rather than noise and or twitching.

Hope this information is helpful.
