anybody upgraded there radio's on their t-maxx? i used to have a Rustler and couldn't stand its controller supplied from traxxas and they havent changed their design since so I am going to look into Futaba probably for a 3 channel radio. let me know what kind of setup you all have

I have a Futaba 3PM and a Futaba 3PK. The 3PM is FASST and the 3PK has a FASST Module. If you're just going to be bashing, the 3PM is a great radio. If you're going to be racing or bashing, then go with the 3PM FASST so you never have to worry about what channel you're own when you're running with other guys. You can get the 3PM FM for about 130-150 I think and the FASST for about 180. The Futaba 3PK's go for 200- 275 used and 300+ new. The new Futaba 4PK is coming out soon, but if you have to ask how much it costs, it's probably now what you are looking for. I have been VERY pleased with my Futaba stuff and their sutomer service as well as there service center are both top notch.

Spektrum DX 3.0. LOVE IT. Can control 4 rc's with it, and dont have to worry about checking frequencys.

+1 on that. If you are looking for another inexpensive, yet high quality, radio, I would recommend the Airtronics MX-3 FHSS. I just got mine a few days ago and I LOVE it. Although only time will tell as far as durability and reliability, so far it's been stellar at performing. I did a review for it in the radio section of the forum.

I'm not bashing on the spektrum at all, but if you're looking to run multiple RC's (for example, I have 10 that I need to operate) then you might want to look into the mx 3 FHSS. It has 18 model memory. The Futaba 3PM has 10, and 3PK has 20. The 4PK will have 40.

this may be a dumb question and the last time I switched out radios on an RC was on my Rustler. I know I used the futaba servos with the new radio but are the traxxas servos compatible with the futaba Receiver? or do they not work well

You shouldn't have an issue with your servos working with any of the receivers we've talked about. However, if you're using analog servos you have to make sure that your radio is not set in HRS mode. HRS mode is for digital servos, and it will fry an analog servo in a few seconds.

Analog and Digital servos make different noises (for the most part... the only digital servo I've ever seen made a way different noise). Analog ones kind of "tick" but digital servos make a high pitched whining sound, kind of like the receipt printer at a grocery store. If you have an electric RC then when you go really slow with it it makes a noise that sounds kind of the same.

so i am assuming that the t-maxx 3.3 servos are digital servos?

Oh boy the wife wont like the fact that I am gonna scoop this up!!!

alright well i just purchased a futaba 3PM and i believe that automatically knows if its digital or analog. am I right?

BTW thanks for the search Charliestheman I scooped it up and if i have any problems getting it set up I know who to talk too!!!

I think you will be VERY pleased with your new radio. If anything ever comes up and you have a problem, I've used their service center personally and the prices were VERY reasonable considering what some places charge for parts and labor when you send them something and say "just fix it". They kept in regular contact with me while they had it and the had the system back to me on the 2nd week after I sent it.
