OK, I am looking to pick up a Hyper 7 roller from a member on here. I was looking into the Novak brushless kit for it.
http://www.teamnovak.com/products/brushless/conversion_kits/index.html

Am I the only 1 who questions the single battery box in their set-up pic?? The kit comes with 2 boxes. I am assuming most set-ups will run 2 packs. So the pic was just to show a clean set-up? Or is there a pack to run say, the HV6.5 with this kit?

Or what would be a cheap(i know) or moderately priced set-up? I am really looking to get at least a 15 Min run time, as that is the main at the local track.

Actually it comes with 2 battery boxes, one to fit one kind of battery and the other for another type of battery. I would recommend this since you're turning a nitro into an electric. Try going for a LiPo battery for the best performance.

Well, it does not say they are 2 different boxes, but 2 boxes that come with straps to hold li-po or nimh cells.

i will be using lipos, that is a given. What i need to know is if I can use one pack for the 1/8th brushless set ups. Maxamps has some 14.8(i think) packs, but I am thinking it would be better with a 2 pack system as is usually used. BUT that is not as "clean" of a set-up as is shown on the Novak site.

Acutally, I was reading this.

The Novak Conversion Kit is compatible with the Novak #3020 and #3021 HV High-Voltage Brushless Systems, and is available individually or as a combo kit with these systems. The kit includes a Motor Heat Sink and Motor Mount specifically designed for the Novak 550-size HV motors; Two Battery Boxes for dual 2S Li-Po packs or dual 6-cell Ni-MH packs; and a Steering Servo Mount (replaces dual servo mount set-up as the mechanical brakes and brake servo are no longer needed). Kit includes all the necessary Hardware to complete the conversion.

You are suppose to use 2 LiPo or NiMH packs. Sorry.

No problem, i am just wondering why all the pics they show just one battery box mounted.

I'm more concerned with the open electronics on an offroad rig.....we gotta be able to do something about that....and a hard cover for the LiPo packs would be nice too.....

Ohhh, They're stacked up on eachother. See the two dean plugs coming from the box?

Your right!
Wow I wonder how that will throw the balance off? Dont know how much I like that.

Plaid, you are right, I dont like how they are exposed, I thought about making a shield or a partial cover for them, using some thin lexan, depending on heat, and I I place them exactly.

Thanks for the input guys!

I like the fact the batts are designed to be on the opposite side of the motor. Lipo packs are much lighter than nimh so balance should not be an issue since the motor is very heavy and the esc is mounted on the same side of the motor.

I can't wait for the release. My STR is all ready for the conversion and race season is fast approaching.

Maxamps now sells covers for their packs as well.

Almost ready to pull the trigger on this.......
Novak has their HV 4.5 and a HV esc in their specials section.....What do you think of these? For less than $200 they look like a deal. But I dont know a ton about the other manufactures.....But the ESC looks to be a steal.....what other motors would you say to look at?
Rob, what system are you looking at?

How important do you think the 5mm upgrade kit will be? I am guessing that it almost a given, with the power these things put out.

I am at less than $350 for the kit,4.5 motor, ESC, 5mm kit, and a 13t pinion. Not bad at all I think.
