Hey,

First off, I'm not new to tuning...had 8 or 9 engines...but this XTM 24.7 confused me today. I started it up and it ran awesome, very powerful. I took the temp guage out cause I wanted to double check...turns out the engine was running 180-200 degrees. This is wierd? So I lean it out a half a turn, and starts to run like crap. Temps get up to around 230-240 but the thing starts to run like ass, boggs whenever you give it throttel. So I started to back off the HSN little by little until my performance returned. It did and now it stayed just about 200, like 205 on average. Runs great there, but my question is this...is running an engine at thses temps bad for it? It just likes to be cool lol  I am using the Duratrax Flashpoint guage so I think its pretty accurate...

Thanks :)

Maybe you can compare temps with someone with a tempgun.

I know for a fact, when my engine is to lean and running way to hot, it WILL bog low end, and high end.

Thats my guess.

Either way, lets say the temp is accurate, if the engine runs good at 200 degress like you say, it will last you a long time. :)

I have no one else to bash with at this time. My buddy inot R/C but doesn't have a rig at this point...and if he did he doesn't have a temp gun. I read the temp many times in different places, the hottest being at the gloplug at about 205. It bogged whenever I gave it any throttle at all when it was at 230...so I guess I'll just leave it at where it is for now. This drving was mostly on on tar and the lid was off, maybe that had something to do with it. I did go on the grass and give it WOT but it didn't increase the temps much. Reason I'm asking is cause I hear people say if you don't get it hot enough it will wear out just as if it was too hot...

I would have to agree with Bouzouki. If it runs great at that temp you should be in good shape. I believe that it's important to make sure the engine gets hot enough during break-in so that everything seats properly, but I do not think it matters once it broken in unless you're running at 150.

if it likes 200 run it at 200, your well above any danger cold zone. keep in mind your tempgun may be off, and its for reference only. now you know that with your gun, that engine likes 200*. it may not like a 200* reading on someone elses gun, but as long as you know how it should perform at what temp on your gun, your fine. you should be tuning for power and smoke anyway, temp is just a reference to tell you when your in a danger zone.

Yea thats what I was thinking...I just wanted to make sure its ok if my temp guage is right...thanks.

How is the weather like ? I know that on my old maxx, on any given day it would run bitchen but when the weather changes like cold, it will bog out when I give it gas. Problem was that with all that dense air the mixture was off. So richened the fuel and Voila! It ran way better. Granted that your conditions may not be similar but check your settings according to the temp in your area.

It was about 65-70 degrees out. Supposed to be hotter in the next few days, we'll see how it runs then...
