As I was reassembling my Hyper 8 port I felt a rough edge on the brass washer. After taking a closer look I noticed that it has a ring cut into it. Here is a pic....

I have looked at my manual twice and I have everything according to HPI. Should I use a small washer between the bell and this washer? Now I need to find my extra brass washers. I know they are around here somewhere.

On another side note I also received the new primerless fuel tank from TowerHobbies. It shipped 11/6 (Thursday) and arrived 11/8 (Saturday)!!! And I used the slowest shipping menthod possible. I was very impressed. Here is a pic of the new tank....

That brass piece is a thrust bushing. It was meant to wear. I have replaced it a couple of times on mine. HPI sells them in packs of 4.

The problem with those brass POS's is'nt the thrust vector, it's the slop between the size of hole in it and the crank shaft. It will get thrown to one side and start to deform as the centrifugal forces get their claws on that juicy soft brass. The hole in the brass piece will get bigger and will start to wallow more and end up rubbing on the CB and the bearing. As it does this, the CB will have more freedom to move along the crank, and thus make the brass piece wear more.

Personally, I canned the brass piece and replaced it with a bunch on CB shims, and yes it took a few to get all the long wise slop out (like 7 or so, but it might be more for the 21BB and I don't know about the 25). I shim my CB so the clutch pins don't rub the inside of the CB, and when the shaft screw is tight the CB has about 1 to 2 shims worth of ply front to back on the crank. The shims don't rub the outside of the bearing or the CB and provide the same "thrust whasher" job as the brass pieces.

It's not a question of function, it's reall all about performance.
Whitt..
