I've noticed that there seems to be quite a few people dropping in an OS .18TM or they go even bigger. But, I'm finding it hard to find anyone who has put the .18TZ motor into the revo.

Is there a problem? If so its disappointing since I had wanted to stay with a small engine, but still break 2hp with a good bit of torque grunt. The TZ fit the bill perfectly.

Any help like pics, videos or just general information about why or why not would be greatly appreciated. As you may have guessed, I don't have a LHS so you guys are my only resource outside of mags before I take the plunge on a new mill.

Thanks.

Double post due to a merge.

Looks like the fins on the bottom of the block on the TZ will be a problem with the Revo eng. mount. Also, the crank my be a prob. too. It's do-able, you just have to be a little creative. The TM runs like a sprayed roach, and it drops right in.

Isn't the TZ and TM the same engines, just the TM has the exhaust and motor mounts specialized for the Revo?

No, the TZ is different in a few ways. The TM is based on the CVR block and uses a standard plug. The TZ has a new block with extra fins on the bottom, a turbo plug, and different crank ends. I have both, plus the CVR-X. The TM and CVR are more alike...

Thanks for the replies.

I had previously posted this in the revo forum and just after I posted here I got a reply pointing me to a thread that had a description of how to do it to a Tmaxx and with pictures no less.

Now being very new to the nitro world I'm deciding on either....

A. talk myself into doing the mod with limited/no experience.

B. Get the TM even though its not the hp and torque increase that I was wanting.

C. Find a similar replacement engine around .18 that's easier to do and has over 1.6 hp that is well thought of.

On option C I'm open to suggestions. :smoke: Also(if you were wondering), the reason for the .18 size and not larger is to keep the weight down.

Thanks!!

The TM isn't that far off from the TZ, IMO. I put the TM in my T-Maxx, and couldn't keep the front wheels down in the soft FL sand. Big improvement over the 2.5, power and tuning wise...

A sirio .23 wouldnt really weigh it down, because it is not a true big block. It would have noticably more power than the stock engine.

1.5 hp vs over 2.2 hp and 80 oz of torque. I understand what you're saying though. When one takes into consideration "usable" horsepower and torque. It would seem that the TZ would put me close to the area that it becomes more work to stay in control than fun. I just wish there was an engine with an O.S. reputation and 1.8-2.0hp...and low weight. :)

Maybe the Fantom .18? Any goods or bads?

The fantom .18 will fit too. But, I have heard you will need to cut the shaft. Use the search function, I remember someone post it here before.
