Hey all, just wondering as i've been reading some reviews and only really noticed this now, but its about the MT's that have the twin vert plate chassis obviously have a gap in the middle. But all the gearing and everything it so exposed it's not funny. Looking up at the the bottom you see the centre diff and driveline, a decent bottom out on the wrong surface would break straight through wouldnt it???

You are referring to the design of the Savage, among others?

If you look closely at the design nothing sticks out below the lower edge of the chassis plates. I guess it COULD receive an impact from a small rock that happened to be narrower than the inside gap between the plates...

Duratrax Warhead design is about the same as well, but the under carriage is covered with a plastic skid plate, and a roll bar up top protects pretty much everything in between. While I haven't had too many bottom outs yet, I'm confident my skid plate would dissipate most if not all of the hit and the driveline would stay in tact VERY well. Can't say that for other MTs since I don't own any others ;-)

Here is what my skid plate looks like: http://picasaweb.google.com/spouliot/DuraTraxWarhead#5298745073072449778

Here is a pic from the top, but my rollbar is not in this pic: http://picasaweb.google.com/spouliot/DuraTraxWarhead#5298745021990150738

Here is one with the rollbar: http://picasaweb.google.com/spouliot/DuraTraxWarhead#5290617527804298578

Here's your cure for that problem, my Savage S25. Not to mention the skid plates just tie the whole truck together and make the chassis flex less.

I dont have one lol. :D

But i was just thinking, an unlucky bottoming out with something the correct size would wreck it something shocking.

Never had a problem with the design of the Savage chassis.
I run aftermarket chassis's now that come with a center skid though.
