question about Gearbox Unit

how can you tell if the gearbox unit is bad blown or no good i have mine taken out to replace a spur gear basically i roll my car forward with the gear box out looking and with way the shaft is turning the i turn my gearbox unit the same way while holding the spur gear and it just keeps spinning but when i turn it the other way it catches any info anyone can help would be greatly appreciated

Is it a 2 speed? If so there is a One Way Bearing inside and the spur will only spin the output shaft when spun in 1 direction, it will free spin in the other direction.

yea it is a 2 speed

That's normal, nothing wrong with the transmission.
