RC Driving Style
Hi All,

My GF and I are in this hobby together. We have a small collection of trucks and we run regularly (weekends) at Floyd Bennet Field in Brooklyn, N.Y. My GF isn't the spectator type who sits there looking bored. She drives her E-Maxx like she stole it from Arnold Schwarzenegger.

We like to hang out on the abandoned runways in the field so we have a full compliment of dirt and jumps right next to the smooth concrete expanse (literally). This way we can run what ever trucks we want from one place.

Floyd Bennet Field sees lots of RCers on the weekends but mostly guys at the on-road track none of which are very chatty or sociable for that matter (its sad actually). We almost never see couples there and when we do, the poor wife/gf is bored out of her skull. Personally, I have never once seen a female with a radio in her hand at that track other than my GF.

Are there any couples like us in Brooklyn or Queens who might wanna hook up at Floyd Bennett and bash and maybe make some new friends?

Wassup yo, I'm in NJ just over the Geothals.

My GF just started running some of my electrics to learn how to drive but shes learning quickly. She wants a micro so I may have to build one for her. Shes always willing to play cheerleader for me when I go out and bash. Team17 and I typically head out to one of the local colleges just to -F around but a Brooklyn bash might be fun. How far is Floyd Bennet from the Verrazzanos? What kind of rides do you have? MT, Buggy, onroad??

I have an LD3 and an Inferno, Team has an HPI SS and a T-Maxx. Is there an off road track??

Floyd Bennett is about 15 or 20 min over the Plank for you. Exit 11s on the Belt Pkway. I would say from the Geothals, its about 30 minutes. From my house its about 20 minutes.

I recently lightened our collection of tiny vehicles. We current run an E-Maxx, 2 RC10GTs (one for concrete, one for dirt), and an Evader EP (Rarely). If you park in the right place, you can have a smooth area and dirt heaven literally right next to each other. You can run anything there including dragsters if you want. The next thing I gotta have is a monster truck (The E-Maxx is hers!!).

Is this a public field? Has anyone taken the time to build an off road "track"?

Its a HUGE public field. Everything from kite flying to bicyclists. Its like having a airport mostly to yourself. There is a 100x200 on-road "area" that they paved real smooth for us. There is no off-road track though. In fact, I've never even seen one of those except in pictures. :)

Thats a good question. I'm not sure I know how they got the on-road track. I'll see what I can find out.

I've been scouring the area by me to find a suitable place for an off road track and everyone either wants too much $$ to lease the land or just wont let me build. Whatever you can find would be great!!!

What do you supposed building one of would involve? I ask because the on-road area at Floyd Bennett is just a 100x200 paved area. Guys come buy and sort of "donate" stuff to make barriers out of (fire hoses, pylons, stuff like that but mostly fire hoses.). I would imagine that an off-road thing would have to be dug out in a certain shape and be maintained more than just a big paved area.

Do they just leave the firehoses out there? is there like a shed that is run by someone that would store all the track stuff?

My idea was to donate my time, energy, and whatever cash i can to getting a real track built. It would prolly be a weekly thing for me to then go out and maintain it. I've basically been driven by the motto, "IF I BUILD IT, THEY WILL COME"

Once its built I figure if I can get a few people I can trust we can start a little club and then take turns going out and maintaining it. Like raking the dirt pulling weeds making sure the jumps and banks are still intact etc etc.

This way once there are enough people, if we need to buy dirt or rent a bobcat or something we can take donations or split it between certain people or whatever.

Seeing as how FBF is a former airport, there are sheds and hangars all over the place. The firehoses stay in a small vestibule that leads into one of the hangars. It doesn't get locked up or anything. We figure who would wanna steal worthless firehoses with holes?
