I just bought a Savage X SS last week, and it just arrived at my door yesterday so I'm digging in as we speak to start the build. I'm going to leave it almost stock to start with and eventually replace everything on the truck with high performance stuff, I just want to see where the weak links are as opposed to spending a lot of money before I ever drive it and see how it performs.

I have been building a T-Maxx, and the factory screws are not worth the salt in my bread. I'm wondering how the screws that come with the Savage are going to hold up. Has anyone built one of these with the HPI hardware? How did it hold up? Are there some bearings or anything that I should buy along with new screws before even getting a good start on the build?

I had no problem with the HPI hardware. Just make sure you're using quality tools. I have Integy hex wrenches and a full range of screwdrivers to make sure I'm not hacking at the screws. That is the best advice I can give you.
As for other things to consider, I don't know what bearings the X comes with. Check to see if it comes with bearings in the steering. Most kits use bushings there. Bearings help. Otherwise I think it's a pretty complete kit. Just build it and run!

Alright thanks alot! I've got some nice hex wrenches and I'm trying to find some very high quality screw drivers.
