Putting in an RB TM323.23 mill in my Revo!

Well, stopped by my favorite LHS to buy servo tape, and walked out with a little more than that. Picked up the RB TM 323 .23 mill. This mill is designed with the Revo motor mount already installed and a new manifold and pipe as well. I was told this was a pretty tunable motor and loads more fun than the .18TM. For the price I paid I got the motor, mounts and pipe/manifold, versus spending for the OS motor, then seperately buying the pipe, manifold, and Traxxas big block conversion kit. The kit even uses the stock clutch and flywheel.

Hopefully I have time to install it tonight and break it in tomorrow!

I paid 219.00, plus tax. The O.S. .18 would have been 199.00 plus tax, then I still needed the Traxxas big block kit for another 49.00, plus then cough up a pipe and manifold.

The OS.18TM is a direct drop in for the Revo and the stock pipe works pretty good with the .18. I've got the OS.18TM in my Revos, Its a great mill I can't imagine what that big block will be like.

Hey, Bashaholic, I may have misled you slightly. I was comparing the price of the OS TM to the RB, and then comparing doing the same thing with another big block such as the Sirio .23. Sorry.

I was VERY tempted to get the OS as I love my V-Spec in my buggy, but something kept telling me, "There is no replacement for cubic inches...". I guess it is my old late seventies gearhead days coming out or something. Glad you are happy with yours!

Yeah that was a little confusing lol. The RB's were'nt out when I got my OS's or I probably would have got one. Give us an update after you get it broke in as to the power and how well it holds a tune.

Okay guys, it's in. Went in pretty much as per the instructions, which were not too hard to follow. Pics were photo'd pretty dark so just read along. I started at 6:00 p.m. and just finished at 7:45 p.m. with two small interruptions. I have about 15-20 minutes more work on it tomorrow before I can fire it off.

Have an OFNA clutch bell shim kit handy. You have to use the original parts (if you are doing a straight swap) and I came up short with a little play. I shimmed once and nailed it.

Also, the manifold is held on with springs (uggghhhhh). In the steps they provide it is one of the last steps. Attach the manifold with the two small springs before you slip the motor into the mounts. MUCH EASIER!!!! That, or get one long one to wrap around the head.

I'll try to get pics up tonight or tomorrow afternoon. I like the look of it all and I am anxious to crank it over. It still needs a carb throw adjustment and the last manifold spring attached. If I cannot get it on I will go to plan 'B' and get one long one.

Well, got it in, put on a one piece exhaust manifold spring instead of the two they give you, adjusted the linkage, and fired it up with the EZ Start. Fired up right away, but took a few more tries to keep it running. Ran about 4 tanks on fast idle on the stand, and then hit the street once I got temps to 170. OK, I'm shaking. The sucker is doing wheelies with part throttle. How the heck am I going to complete the break in if I cannot get to half throttle without losing it?!?! Soooo coool. Needs a little more break in and adjustments to the linkage, but I almost there and will finish tomorow.

FYI:

I just happened to go by the new Ultimate Hobbies store out here to pick up a single manifold spring (used MGT manifold spring) and they have the RB kit for the same price as my favorite LHS "Ron's R/C Hobbies" (they have a website) at 219.00 plus tax. Good to know.

it looks alot similar to the sirio .23 (3.8cc) drop in, with the xtra pipe. (rb is 3.78cc) do you think the ofna blazer is a comparible machine to the revo? (durbility and preformance are the 2 factors)

The Revo is pretty durable, and I have no experience with the OFNA truck. I would say the Revo might not be as durable right out of the box as some other trucks, but the difference is not worth arguing about. Biggest reason to get the Revo is for the suspension. It is a real piece of art, and works as promised, too.

revo if you want to really set that sucker up bad ass (you're gonna hate this) you should have gotten the Big block kit and the extended chassis....the big block conversion just lets you have more engine options is all really....well now you can just do the chassis...but it helps keep it under control alot better.......I see a few locals race them now and what a difference....my truggy was a revo killer but these guys are definately the new king race truck in town....makes me want to go do a revo now.....

Plaid, I thought about it but the RB rebuild kit is relatively inexpensive and since I do not race my Revo I just wanted reliable HP. So far I am ecstatic with the results. Going this route also kept my costs down considerably.
