hi was just wondering what all i have to change if i put a 2.5r 4tec on a pro 15 tmaxx i havent looked at the gears yet just got the idea and thought i would ask before i tare in to it
thanks

a good bit of work .first you have to buy the throtle linkage upgrade. install it (drill a3 little holes. you shou do foc (foward only conversion)gets rid of reverse.need to upgrade all the shafts .i did the wide max suspension kit on mine makes it more stable in turns.and used revo axle carriers and revo shafts center and out put shafts (some people use cvd's) but they cost more then useing the plastic revo shafts are cheper and i never had a problem should put alum.chassi barses on it helps with flexing i also put all the aluminum skid plates front back and center.

wow sounds like alot of work just to switch a engine lol

ya well if you don't you end up twisting the shafts like a twizzler because of the extra power . i learned the hard way . i did one thing at a time so i had to keep tearing apart my truck .but now sselling mine .just have to many trucks . you don't have to do the wide max suspension but like i said it help in the turns

thats all he has to have but if he does not upgrade the drive line it WILL TWIST I have done it .might as well go ahead and do it right the first time so he does not have so much down time .he is new so he is going to dog it everybody does that is why it is so fun .but if he does everything at once he will get alot more fun out of it instead of being broke down all the time, and once he puts in the 2.5 for a while you know he will want more (3.) if he does that without doing the other upgrades the whole drivre trany will need to be replaced as soon as the motor is broken in .and with the plastic chassi braces it will still twist and eat spur gears. (not with the alum braces...)

The question was about putting a 2.5 on an older "narrow maxx" chassis....in place of a pro 15. All he needs is tra 4900.

Of course I would recommend upgrading some stuff, but to make it work that's all you would need.

OP, The stock clutch bell is a 20 tooth if you don't have one already.

Stock shafts hold up decent with a proper slipper adjustment. It's a 2.5, not an O.S. Expect to upgrade eventually but it sure isn't a must.

if they eventually need it it is a must.sooner or later all i did was let him know what should be done and he knows what he is getting into the one upgrade will effect everything else .no it is not a must do it now but why not better now then him running it for a couple of times and haveing to tear it back apart every few times . and as you said with the right slipper adjustment he is new he probably does not know much about that so he will get frustrated and maybe give up on nitro and nobody wants that.lol

really the best way is to buy a real 2.5 max but not everybody can do that .

yea i think ill just leave it i have a 2.5r on my truck and had this 4tec just sitting around so was going to put it on my little girls truck but i thing shes good till i get her a new truck it was a idea for something to do.whould it matter is i made it 2 wheel drive or will it still twist everything

Sheesh. Nice job of scaring somebody away from one of the funnest parts of the hobby. Modding and learning. You could have explained slipper setup in the same amount of space as you used to spread paranoia.;)

was not trying to scare him off just trying to let him know what can happen .the 2.5 i put on mine twisted all my shafts and instead of it happening to him i let him know what i had to do . and ya , I know it has the same tranny and the shafts .(paranoia.) ya right .I thought the purpose of this forum was to inform people with your expereince's .not to bash some one for trying to help.if what I did was a bad thing then I'M A BAAAAD MAN.LOL

hear is the PM ijust sent him.

didn't mean to scare you off the 2.5 will work with just the conversion kit .and the other guys are right if you adjust the slipper clutch it should be ok but if you run it real hard like i was, the shafts will twist down the road sometime

you also hve to remember that i went from the .15 to the 2.5 to the 3.3 and had no choice but to do the other upgrades.worth it though the 3.3 is a blast.

and if it is for your little girl do you think she can handle the 2.5. ? i would do it and if the shafts twist you can alwys get the cvd metal shafts they won't twist.:D. sorry for any misunderstanding . sometimes my mind thiinks one thing and it comes out soo very different.:(
