Not if you have some mechanical ability. The instructions are great, and a few of the more complicated things to build such as the diffs and tranny are already done for you in the kit. I think building a kit is far better than buying an rtr, this way you know how it goes together, and comes apart when you need to work on it.

The diffs and tranny come preassembled?
Wow, diffs are not that hard imo. The savage has a simple design too, shouldnt be that hard. Just look at the instructions and take your time.

If you get a Kanai better be good at visual instructions.. or an Ofna.Seen both and they are pretty tough!

For the kits arnt they all visual?
My mugen book was just all skamatics and no first do this then this. The skamatics were in order but no written.

wow....no the savage comes with very good instructions with the caviat that you still have a lot left from bag to bag like open bag "a" assemble this and that now open bag "b" but there is still a lot of screws and stuff left in bag "a"
just have to be organized.....and if your doing the 4 gear mod & the reverse module youll have to get into the diffs and trans anyway....but its really fun I'm in the process of building it right now...if you THINK you want to do it i say go for it youll love it
