Pullstart Question?

Have a quick question about a pullstart... i have a OS .15CVRX and can't stand pulling this motor to start anymore so i have been bump starting it, just wondering if its ok to remove the pull start and do they make some sort of cover?

Yes you can - however, you may want to order the crank and backplate made for that mill. Call O.S. and they should give you the part numbers you need. At bare minimum, get the new backplate and modify the crankshaft yourself. This is very possible.

I also have that same mill, and at first break in, it was a bitch to pull, I just got an os21rgx for my storm and there is no way I want to pull this bitch, It has the largest pull start asembly I have ever seen on a mill this size, and the compression is outrageuos! I also purchased a starter box and was told if I wanted to remove the pull start I would have to cut the shaft and get a backplate for it OR just take off the pull start body housing,remove the rope and spring coil put the housing back on and seal the hole where the rope was to keep out any dirt, this will allow the shaft to spin freely inside the pull body, doing this wont hurt or cost anything, you just have to look at a pull body on the mill,I will most likely do this after I get the starter box lined up. now, your os15cv-rx will start right up first or second pull once its broke in and tuned well, mine is a breeze to start now, and after pulling the 21rgx its extremely ez to pull! if it's hard to pull, that's a sign of good compression. you could try using a hair dryer (or a real heat gun) to warm up the engine before you pull start it. that will make it much easier to turn.

i rescently went from a pullstart -> starterbox. I really don't see any reason to get the racing backplate (non-pullstart). Some people say that the rotating pullstart assembly reduces the engines power. That may be true, but it's not a big deal to me. If it is to you, you can get a racing backplate or you can do like Chris said and use a dremel to remove the "nub" on the crank that makes the pullstart assembly turn.

Thanks guys for the help guys, i think i'll do what Nitro said it sounds the most cost effective, and yes the motor is still breakin in and compression is tight you can tell from the blisters on my hand ... the problem was i ran out of fingers to hold the pull start cord in.....

oh yeah the other trick for tight compression is to loosen the glow plug a quarter turn, fire it up and then tighten it up
