pull start or ez start?

stick with the ez start... just keep an extro battery with you.
The pull start cord breaks easy and the coil in the pull start breaks easy. not to mention you have to use the glow plug stick. also the ez start does not put as much weight on as some people will try to make you think it does.

i agree with you 100% ;):D

Thanx man. Yea, the ez start worked good for me yesterday once I got my engine warmed up. I think maybe I'm not priming it enough to get it started. I always "baby" it, so to speak. A lot of people say when their engine is cold, it only takes about 5 to ten secs to start. Not the case with me. That's when I kill my ez.start battery. Like I said, once warm, I barely need to touch the "lil red button" and vvvvrrrrooooommmm... she's all set. So maybe I'm not priming long enough. I wait to see the fuel coming up the line, then when it gets near the carb, ill try it. I'm also not using the blue glow plug wire. Always had trouble with it. Using an ignitor. Seems to be great. Thanx again.

I've recently ditched my ez start for an ignitor and pull start. only took me about 5 min to change it out. i keep the ez start, wand, and battery in my hobby box just incase i break the rope or get tired of pulling. it was the best 50$ I've spent at the lhs in awhile.
when i get tired of starting my maxx i just push it around and go "vroom vroom vroom" its a lot quieter and i can play in the house without my wife getting angry.

i tossed my ez-start bat. and wired the hand wand to street truck bat. the extra voltage doesn't seam to hurt any thing. this works only when you can get close the bashing / racing place. i have found the lights on the hand wand should be ignored.

agreed 100%!!! I've never been able to get the blue wire to light the plug. So, ditched that and the yellow and went with an ignitor. Seems to work ok. Still having a hell of a time with the wand battery though. But yea, I ignore the pretty little lights. To me they mean, "throw me away".

to icunvmytmaxx. traxxas ez-start mod
by: “moe” Shouse moe7404@att,net
this is an instruction set that modifies the ez-start hand wand to use the battery in your street truck to start your r.c. truck. it will put 12 volts to your starter on your r.c. truck. I can not be sure that it will not harm your ez-start system. however I have been using this mod for 9-10 mo. with no trouble. my r.c. starter has never overheated, and I have cranked it a lot with no trouble. do this mod at your own risk. by using this instruction set you are taking on all risk. now a list of things you need.
1.radio shack. wire 278-567. 18 gauge speaker wire.
2.radio shack. cigarette lighter plug. 270-070.
3.dura trax. battery connector and wire. dtxc2260. radio shack has this connector with out the wire. but its easier to use the dura trax
4.for reference ez-start hand wand traxxas #5280. about $14
round up all the parts. first cut a hole in the wand cover. between the belt clip and end of the cover, big enough for the white connector. a soldering iron works good , then trim the edges of the hole. this hole should be 5/8 wide 3/8 tall. now solder the wires on the white connector to the speaker wire. red to red black to black. reinforce the joint. now figure how long the wire is to be. like from the cigarette lighter socket to the tail gate of the street truck. now strip the other end of the speaker wire. tin each wire and insert them into the cigarette plug. now double check the the wire colors to see that the colors are not crossed. now get out your volt meter and check that you get voltage at the wand end, on some sockets you have to have the ign on accs. and that plus volts is on the red wire. now insert the white connector in the to the wand, there is a plus sign just below pins inside the wand that goes to the red wire, and dont force it, you may have to rock it some. now try it on your r.c. car. if it does not work double check your work. also I might have made a mistake, but I have double checked what I written. sorry about it being so long.

to check to see if the gears on the ez-start are binding. just reverse the wires going to the motor this will run the gear train backwards with out turning the engine over. then toss the hand wand battery and hook up the hand wand to your street truck battery.

I have a dynamite peak 2 charger and I ran my T-maxx with the ez start for a good 4-5 hours today no problem.
E-z start is a better choice because it is...easy...you dont have to pull the body off everytime and deal with the pull start.

Once my 2.5 was sealed and tuned, my 3000mah venom would start the truck 25-30 times. I never pre-prime the engine. Ignitor on, crank the engine and plug the stinger a few times and it pops every time. Takes no more than 2-3 seconds to start. I've gone months without charging the wand battery when I wasn't driving the truck often. And after sitting in a burglars attic for 6 months, it started the exact way as it has. I bought a bottle of after run oil years ago for $5 and it's still half full. Seems silly to use anything else.

matt you are right about the oil. servel decades ago i found a new in box marvel mystery oiler. so i ask my dad what should i put in it? he said i bet it doesn't use much so just use marvel mystery oil. been useing mmo for 3 decades, it makes an engine start VERY fast, cause the piston rings are sealed.

I vote pull start. keep the ez-satrt on till it's tuned in then switch. your finger will toughen up quick and like mentioned.... "you can feel what the motor is doing"

BUT my opinion my be because the blue wire on my ez start was junk so I had to use my buddies glowstart with the ez start.

+1 on everything you said Matt. After recycling 3 batteries..(my 1800mhz for priority, and 2 1500mhz's for backup, I think I got this ez start thing licked. Like you said, ignitor on, couple quick plugs of the pipe, and a few short bursts, and my truck starts within a matter of seconds now. FINALLY, I can use my wand all day without a single charge! It's all a matter of personal preference, but I'm going ez start all the way now. Great thread. I never knew it would continue this far. BASHING!!!!!!

going back on my word....I now have tennis elbo and blisters you can read about. I'm jumping ship one more time!

lmao!!!! I guess its the prices we pay just to have a little fun. If you can get yourself set up with a good charged battery, go with the ezstart. You honestly won't be sorry. Took me a while to realize that, but I'm glad I did.
