My son and I finally got our Savage SS broken in. Just as I was getting the engine dialed-in I managed to snap the pull start. I am pretty impressed overall but the pull start seems to be a weak point. Do you guys recommend replacing this with a roto start or just replacing the pull start? Is there any chance of fixing the broken cord? I haven't had time to pull the enging yet but figured I would ask here first anyway.

Some people use a stronger cord . I personally haven't broke mine..not saying I won't. You can get some around here in the F/S forum.

Personally I would stick with the pullstart, once you get the hang of getting your engine started the pullstart will not be a big deal. You will have alot less stuff to lug around, not to mention not having to worry about batteries dying with the rotostart.

you can change the cord with some made for mini-blinds. I have some kevlar braided cord but I haven't had a chance to test it out yet.

Link to that kevlar stuff diesel?
I picked up up a whole spool of the stuff your selling arawak at lowes for 3 bucks.I hevnt tried it out yet.

$3 uh? I'm using it on my k46 pull and it works excellent i might add. well seeing how moms only paid $3 and sweets hooked me up with some set screws for FREE. vulcan it is your lucky day pm me your address and i'll send you enough out to replace the cord twice.

one love

Arawak just rying to inform the guy.
I got the last associated cord the lhs had and then went to lowes the next day and got twine.

i thought she paid like $15 for the spool or something, so i was trying to recope some of it, but at only $3 a spool. hell i'll give some away.

anyone need some?

I thought you were calling me moms sorry.
Ya i picked up 3 ply nylon, hot pink, at lowes for like 3.89. Seems really strong.

Ya thats the only color they had at my lowe's. Wait nvm. They had gold but it was like twice as much. You dont really see the string anyways do you...

Was the gold 14K or 24k? j/k

hot pink is fine with me, I need to get in touch with my feminine anyways. arawak no need to send me any, I'll stop at lowes and grab a spool.

Well, I think I'll stick with the pull start for now. I don't think we need another battery to deal with or extra stuff to lug around. Now that the engine is broken in I'm assuming it should be easier to start and easier on the cord.
I actually have a piece of nylon that should work fine as a replacement but thanks for the offer. I pulled the engine last night and dissambled the pull start. The cord broke right at the end so I could also just cut about 1/2" off and reuse the old cord. Is there a trick to putting one of these back together? Or an instruction somewhere that you could point me too. I managed to rewind the spring and get it back in the housing but the notch at the base of the spool doesn't want to line up with the spring.
Thanks for the help...

roto start works great! its like 50 dollars but it is worth it! on my savage 25 it starts first spin. i used to always break my pullstart.
