hi, i recently bought a rs4 3 ss and I'm really happy with my decision. The other day i was starting it and the pull cord wouldnt retract back into the engine. I opened it up and found that the spring was still in perfect shape. I was just wondering what else it could be. Thank you for the help.

Did the pull starter work ok after you removed it from the engine? Perhaps you hydro locked the engine? Did you check your one way bearing?
 
the pull cord worked fine after i removed it. I really didnt check the bearing.
 
cesar - alot of times, when this happens, its caused by the one way bearing slipping. spray a liberal amount of Denatured Alchohol or Nitro Cleaner into the bearing and pull start assemble, let dry, and then reinstall. That should do the trick.
 
thank you for the help. I didnt want to have anything shipped to korea because it takes too long. You saved me alot of time.

I had a similar prob and my luck I turned the flywheel in the direction it goes when retracting and it wound itself. Funny it only happens with this pull start assembly. If this does happen I reccommend that you foolow NA's advice and spray some Denatured alcohol or nitro spray and clean out the one way bearing
 
is my pull cord supposed to retract when its off the engine?????


i sprayed denatured alchohol on the one way bearing and it works fine but the pull cord still doesn't retract.

ok, i was able to fix the problem. but the pull cord still seems to get stuck in certain spots. oh well, i guess ill figure it out. thanks for the info.
