I just got this email today and thought Id pass it on. I figured they must have gotten my email addy when I sent my ps2 in for the "eye" going out on it. anyway, here it is.

An Important Notice from the Superior Court of the State of California, County of San Mateo, United States and from the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Canada, About a Class Action Settlement Involving the PS2

IF YOU OWN A PS2, YOU COULD GET BENEFITS FROM THE SETTLEMENT.

A proposed settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit concerning the performance of the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system ("PS2"). You may be a member of the Class whose rights may be affected by this lawsuit. The sole purpose of this notice is to inform you of the lawsuit so that you may decide what steps to take in relation to it.

If the settlement is approved, Class Members who complete and return a Claim Form, on or before February 16, 2006, may be eligible to receive settlement benefits. The claim form may be accessed at www.PS2Settlement.com or obtained from the PS2 Settlement Administrator, c/o Rust Consulting, Inc., PO Box 1784, Faribault MN 55021-1784.

Whether you are entitled to benefits will depend upon which subclass you are in. You may also choose to exclude yourself from the settlement. There are deadlines associated with the choices you may make regarding the settlement, and the last day to submit completed claim forms, to object to the settlement or to opt out is February 16, 2006. More information describing your rights under the settlement, as well as instructions for filing a claim may be accessed by contacting the Settlement Administrator. yeah, this is NOT a scam, i saw an article about it in the New York Times newspaper a couple weeks ago...

Hmmm...my PS2 has been giving me "Disc read error" for a while now. So often that I just stopped using it. I bought it a long time ago tho, like the first year it came out.

My freind's is doing the same thing,he bought his when it came out also.

Ac as long as ya havnt opened it up, you can send it back and they will replace the reading eye for no cost for ya. I got the disk error all the time, and called, and had to ship it to them, and I got it back in 3 days, and havnt had a problem since.

Nope I haven't opened up, maybe I will see if they'll fix it for me. Any special number to call, or just sony's number?

mine makes a noise like errrererereerr and you have to smack the Ps2 for it to work(LOL) and it won't play my favorite game in the whole world( Midnight Club III )....

Damn !!
I just threw mine out ..
After the 30 times it gave me a disc read error i tore it apart and then trashed it .. damn!! oOo well thats life

Ac Ill see if I can find my reciept thing for them fixing it. I know I called Sonys regular number and they gave me a seperate number, Ill see if I can find it.

Spit, on the drawer it runs on a gear type setup, so my guess would be one of the teeth broke off and it throws it off track. Them when ya smack it, it smacks it back on. If I can find the number Id give em a call. They said they would repair anything on a ps2 for no charge (Besides shipping) as long as it was a defect caused by defective parts. So your good as long as you havent spilled anything on it, or dropped it froma bridge or something. Just member if ya open it up, it voids all the warrenties and then its like $60 a hr for them to fix it.

Ok thanks 4u2nv. Yea, I almost trashed min but I just put it in the closet and forgot about it haha. I would play some Underground if it worked haha. lmk if you find that number, if not I'll jsut give Sony a call and see what they say.

Thwy will know Spit. Theres seals on there that when broken it says Void. ANd its nearly impossible to get the seals off without breaking them.

Ac I looked for my return sheet for almost a hr last night and couldnt find it. Id suggest just calling Sony and telling them you want to ship a defective Ps2 to them, and they'll transfer ya to the right people. Sorry I couldnt of found it, I bet I tossed it by accident.

Sucks too because Sony doesn't sell parts for them. So a person has to buy a parts one off ebay to get parts off of it. That or bite it and pay the $60 a hr to get it fixed, but in the long run it might be cheaper to buy a new one.
