When filling the center diff what's the proper fluid level? Cover the gears, 1/2 full, less than 1/2???? I keep getting different answers. GS storm center, 7,000 wt.

Fill all diff's until the fluid is level with the connection point of the crossing pins. Let the fluid settle for a few minutes.

Let's just say for a minute that "a friend of mine" filled them so that the oil covered the gears (80% to the top). What would this do?

probably lube the diff..............just kidding, i hear that it may cause leakage do to the pressure that builds up. i was warned by some of the pros not to overfill. maybe someone has some more insight that they would like to add????

just to be clear on my end.......to the bottom of the top pin??? or cover the top pin???? i know that it may make some resistance difference.

there is a cut in both pins so the top of pin a is exactly the top of pin b. you're shooting for the middle of the pins. a tiny bit more or less shouldn't be too big of a deal.

it would make the diffs to "tight"

When I said top, I meant top of the diff casing. I was advised at the LHS to fill it up to the top of the spider gears (gears being completely covered, not just the cross pins).

error, i wouldn't stress too bad over it. i saw someone do exactly what you described at the track. he never has any problems (a gear had broke on him).
