just purchased the new tmaxx kit to run on my savage with the new era arms, the kit was 140.00 and had to make some modifications i had to space the rear shock tower back some so the shock clears the header,i wonder if i put the extended tvps on this would slove my prob. but other then that they seem to be pretty good ill let you know more when i get time to go bash it,they look good I'm going to figure out how to post pic. then you all are in trouble cause I'm photo happy!!!

sweet, i got some t-maxx shocks on my savage and my god they are SWEET!. i love them i got the supermaxx shocks and man i can do 8 ft jumps and not bottom out!

ok, something kinda hit me while I was at work concerning this thread. this may not cause a problem but it's just a thought...
If I'm understand your mod correctly (spacing the shock tower back) this would cause a slight misalignment between the line of your shock motion and the line of your a-arm motion... that is to say they won't be traveling on the same parallel. Now seeing as how the shocks have a ball joint at the bottom they will accomadate themselves to the change in angle but I am just a little concerned that this slight change may cause a little extra stress on those shocks especially on heavy landings. you may run the risk of bending a shock shaft or even at the most minimal get a funny wear on your pistons. This is just a theory but I thought I'd put in my :2cents: Overall, it's probably worth the risk anyways as anytime we do any kind of moddin we run the risk of weakening things.

The issue he mentioned is not unknown. The spacing of the rear shock tower is a pretty good idea. There is another member on this site that solved the same problem, and might be able to provide some insite on how to make it work without spacing...I'm not certain how he solved it.

Here is his thread...CLICK HERE

It was me that tried the 8 buggy shcoks on the Savage. By the way it is working great, and it has held up even though I bash the snot out of my truck.

The way that i fixed the problem with the header was by getting a golden horizons rear shock tower. On the furthest out positon it allowes the shock clear the header. That is the easy part. The difficult part is making sure that the shock on the other side dosent hit the gas tank.

P.S. I am working on a second setup of 8 buggy shocks that will allow to me ditch some of the alum. I dont like alum, it is expensive and once bent it is never the same. Ill keep you updated.

lessen is right it changed the angle, and when i flipped the lower balls popped off a couple of the dampers, these new proline shocks a have large bodies and now I'm thinking I'm getting rid of them just cause they are so thick, has anyone extended there tvps dont it push the rear back?and if it did wont the shocks clear the header,i also have a bent header from the tower flexing and shock hitting it.its runs real smooth in a flat grass park but i dont think it will hold up to some serious bashing.

The Proline shocks are no larger than 1/8 scale buggy shocks. Shogun (the post in front of your last one) gave a good solution that you might want to look into, and if you choose to go that route...I'll return your check to you when it arrives. But he is running 8 buggy shocks on his Savage.

Whoa, this thread is kinda confusing. I thought people loved how there savages could take hose 6-8ft drops w/o bottoming out becuase of those super long shocks and how people w/ maxx's would complain about bottoming out from a 5ft drop with a heavier than stock shock oil in there and aftermarket springs.

BTW, I love prolines new shocks and I really want to get them. Could you plaese gice us a review on them becuase I'm torn between those and the big bore shocks.

oh the new shock are great its has a double dual rate spring, well built 3.5 mm shafts but untill i get my new shock towers i can't do hard bashing...

Just a thought.... I don't know how far back you had to space your shock tower but maybe you could mod your upper a-arms a little. i'm not familiar with how Savage a-arms are setup so I'm not sure if this is possible. I do know that stock T-maxx 2.5 upper arms are adjustable along the suspension pin (caster), maybe you could do some modding to the upper arms so they can be slid back along the suspension pins... add some shims to keep her steady.. with some trial and error and "eyeing it" adjustment you might be able to get all that back in line.. the only thing this does to the rear wheel alignment is give the rear wheels more negative caster but seeing as how there fixed (not steering) it'll never fall into play...

I'm getting some towers from sky and then I'm going into tweak mode sounds like a good idea i have to look at it to see if its going to work thanks for all the help

Lessen, in order to do what you are saying he would have to do some serious work on the bulkheads and arms in the hinge area.

As for adjustability, he has bought some upper arms and is buying some towers that offer a few more options than the stock set up. If he still has issues, he may be able to work some mods to make it go...but he'll have to show us how he does it...then we can duplicate the effort.
