I wanted to get something to work on and something for my daughter to bash with when she is over. So I traded a Hellfire roller to Plaidfish for a T-Maxx and a bunch of parts.
I wanted something that had reverse and was very easy to get parts for.
So here is my progress.

Disassembled and installing my modified reverse gears for smooth takeoff.

Rolling chassis complete with O.S. P2 .21 and JR electronics.

Body my daughter picked out (wile in progress of being masked).

Paint that my daughter picked out.

More to come as progress continues.

This is how I modded the Trans.

This is what the unmodified forward gear looks like. The reverse is similar.

First I remove the clutch and spring assembly from both gears.

Then I install a savage drive cup pin in its place so that it sticks out about ¼ inch on both gears.

Then just assemble the trans and enjoy smooth take off in forward and reverse.

Ok, so now I'm finished masking and trimming and just checking for any clearance issues.

So far so good and ready for paint.

Basic paintjob and detail work, but it is finished for now. This is a basher body anyway and the next one I’ll pay a little more attention to detail.

sounds like you better adjust the slipper clutch. I have run big blocks, o.s. .18's you name it, and i have owned it over 8yrs and never replaced tranny gears as of yet. I have replaced the bearings in the tranny once. if you run your slipper correctly you shouldn't have any problems.

i have the RR dual slipper. I tighten it all the way down and back it off 1/2 turn.

LOL......man that mill will be alot for your lil girl, hope daddy helps alot til she gets the hang of it.... Did you figure that rev mod out or was it posted somewhere? that's a slick idea.....

and Kurt, that tranny is more nuclear proof than any T-maxx tranny I've seen....

oh yeah don't run those tires on pavement at all....the treads seem to melt away on concrete & asphalt

how old is your daughter? I know if my dad built something like that for me i would be scared to run it. Maybe when i was a kid i wouldn't have cared but now i would be scared of tearing up such a beautiful build. I would put it in a case. lol

I wish I would've known about that pin mod - that really is genius. I'll have to tell the guy I sold my maxx to about it. I'm sure he'll want to do that mod, if he ever puts reverse back in.

She wasn't to thrilled about the Bud body. But I figured she would rather pick her own anyway. As far as the mill I dissembled the engine to clean and reseal it and it seamed to run good. My 12 year old daughter used to run my savage wide open and never had a problem and even if she does crash it it's OK. I wanted something to wrench on anyway. LOL.

as far as reverse, when I bought the gear's I saw that stupid clutch thing and did a Google search to see why it was like that. after that I fond a link to a forum that had a thread about the reverse mod. but there was no pic's so I made my own.

just noticed the stock shafts. Any worries about them with that motor?

the CVDs were ripped off that truck last year for my truggy...I ran the stock shafts for about a gallon......they should be upgraded to CVDs or the new 3.3 axles though, that and put the aluminum bellcrank on it (the one right near the fantom mill in the first pic....that will eliminate the linkage flexing issues from the plastic one and make your throttle response alot smoother ....you can find the proline CVDs for like 35-40 for all 4 corners...it's got the center CVDs still though.....watch out if she hits anything w/ that thing...the bulkless setup will just carry it right through brick planters and do no damage LOL....to the truck that is.....I also leave the turnbuckles stock too, I kept breaking the Ti ones and figured I'd rather replace a $2 part instead of a $20 part.....and the A-arm pins are stock too.....the diff ring/pinions are just some off brand hardened gears that hold up real well too.....

I haven't really ran it much yet. I will be adding mip CVD's soon and I was going to install the aluminum bell crank but had some clearance issues. I eliminated the throttle flex issue by drilling it straight through and using a longer screw to hold it in. It's fairly rock solid now.
