RC Driving Style
Please give me some tips. I have no clue on how to paint a body, especially mask, black and white are the colors. please help me out on the painting technique. thanks :)
 
For masking, I would recommend the XXX Main Mask Kits. They work great. The link that HB provided is a really good article. If you read that, it should answer all your questions.

Here are a couple of tips that I would recommend:
---Trim the body first
---Clean the body w/ rubbing alcohol after trimming it. Then rinse off w/ hot water.
---Put the masks on properly & evenly. Plus make sure they are stuck down.
---Take your time and spray LIGHT coats! Allowing adequate time in-between coats. Since it's cold out now, you will need to give each coat a little bit longer drying time. (this is the hardest part)

Other than that, I really don't have any other tips. Let us know how it turns out or if you have any other questions.
 
since its cold if you use spray cans put the in a cup of warm water so the paint will spray better

That is a great tip, with my paint (not spray can), I heat the bottles with a blow dryer for a few minutes. It really makes the mixing process a brease. And the paint really lays down smooth and even.

Sorry DL, but this I disagree with. I would not use rubbing alcohol, instead I use denatured alcohol. All the rest of his tips are very good.

That's cool NCN, I don't mind being corrected, but I will have to counter on this one. Rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) is more compatible w/ lexan than denatured alcohol. You can verify this w/ many sites on the internet. Even the link posted above (RCTech) also states to use isopropyl alcohol.

The ingredients for rubbing alcohol are simply isopropyl alcohol & water. The indgredients for denatured alcohol is a mixture of ethanol w/ a denaturant. So depending on which denaturant is used (there are tons of them), you can run into a compatibility issue w/ the lexan. The denaturant can actually react w/ the lexan or possibly leave a chemical coating on the lexan. Thus, it will decrease the "sticking" abilities of the paint onto the lexan or even haze the lexan.

Sure, denatured alcohol will work on lexan, but you run a higher risk of incompatibility issues. I would still recommend rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol.

yeah if you use a airbrush thats a good idea 2 I've always just stuck the bottle in warm water or even the can just stick it in the sink
