I have had my revo about 2 weeks, just bashing around the yard and on the street. I am just learning how to jump with it. yesterday I the drivetrain just locked up on me. Talked to lhs he said trans gear was broken. I took apart trans, the forward output gear had broken teeth. Replaced it and was still locked up. Removed front diff. and found the housing had a large crack and everything inside was toast. Does anyone know if this is a problem with the Revo? I just don't want to have to be replaceing gears and diffs all the time.
Thanks for the help.

:ponder2:

The difs are usually pretty good. The trans gears are weak unless you do the FOC. You must have landed just right to tear up trans and dif gears. I race my Revo and have had it since it came out, only blew one dif, no trans gears (well once but that was my doing). Welcome to RCNT!

Forward Only Conversion. Gets rid of the all the gears and other parts for reverse, the micro servo and the Opti Drive unit.

Sorry. What RR said, Forward Only Conversion. aka weight loss program for Revo! Sometimes you can find someone selling a whole dif on eBay. Usually you'll just have to go to your LHS and piece it together.

Thanks that helps. The case is cracked and all gears are broken. The LHS said the difs are usally strong.

Forward Only Convertion....I'm guessing thats what their talking about since I'm pretty new also.

Anyways, if so, it's a kit you buy and it removes the reverse option from your Tmax or Revo. I'm not sure on other RC trucks/cars though. I hear it causes people hell and is a PITA to deal with. Then you got people who throw the truck into reverse while it's still moving. This shreads the gear box.

Hope it helps you out

Could hitting a post at mid speed w/ front tire crack the dif case, and cause loss of fluid and that is how the gears got trashed?

If I go with this FOC and decide to start racing what do I remove and what else do I need to do to the truck to be competitive? Truck is stock. Do I need lower gears? Different tires? Ect.

Yes, sudden stoppage could've killed your dif and tranny. The FOC kit comes with everything you need and directions. Be aware though, as mentioned there's an FOC kit for the T-maxx as well but they are different (to the best of my knowledge).

There's quite a lot you can do to your truck to get it race ready, some of which can be done for free. First thing I'd recommend is saving some pennies and getting a nice high torque servo so you can go to a single steering servo. That combined with the steering mods will make a HUGE difference in how the truck turns. It will also give your run times a boost, cause no matter how good you are or think you have em adjusted those two steering servos constantly fight each other, and that sucks life out of your battery. For racing, the stock tires suck, I've yet to see anyone have any luck running them. I use response tires and Hurricane wheels (both Traxxas products). Panther Pythons are decent and many people run 40 series Pro-line Bowties. Gearing, depends on the track your running on.

No, two reasons.
1- They are really designed for use with a big block and keeping the center hub from ripping out with the higher powered BB
2- The weight (rotational mass) difference is huge between the stocks and even greater with 40 series wheel tires (mainly why I use pythons for practice only).

I think the weight difference between Response/Hurricane and Gemini/Talons is like 185 grams (6+ ounces) per wheel/tire combo.:)

i'm with jet on that one. response on hurricanes all the way. i don't think any wheel/tire combo is as light as that. the biggest single improvements i have seen on the revo are: FOC, lose the ez start for pull start or roto start, response/hurricane tires/wheels, traxxas resonator pipe, single servo conversion(even with stock servo), and then probably a different engine. anything else helps some but it's not a huge performance increase like the above stuff.

Just so you don't freak out, rebuilding the diff. is easy. It'll take you, seriously, 15 minutes to rebuild (after you get it out). Yes, hitting a tree, or anything, with the front tire at the right angle and speed may tear a diff apart (i.e. crack the case) although it is rare.

My suggestion, as the fellas above shown, is to give everything a real good once-over while you have it apart to check everything out.

Good luck!

Went to LHS today and got everything I need to rebuild. Plus FOC and close ratio kit. I think for now I will keep the EZ start cuz $$$. I got response tires and the hericane rims are on order.

What do you guys think of the rockers, what should I use, I will be running on a short, tight, dirt track. P1, P2, P3, and what springs. I was using P1 and White up front and green in back, thought it was to soft. I changed to long travel springs silver up front and blue in back seemed good, are those too stiff? How far should I have the spring conpressed w/ the adjuster?
