Hey guys, when ever i finish running my truck i put in a half decent squirt of wd40 (2sec each to head and intake) and once i leave it over night or what not its a pain to start. eg takes a good 1-2min to get it going. but once its going, it starts easy after that on the same run.... even once its cooled back down it will start again from the same temp i was trying to start it from the first time... question is would the wd40 be messing with the fuel mix and giving me problems starting? and can i just turn it upside down and pump it out the glow plug hole to get it out or should i use something else and spray into the carb?

I'm using pull start and bearing is kinda on its way out, but still works.
new glow igniter
new fuel
used new plugs I'm pretty sure, but have a couple new ones waiting in case i should try again.
iv primed the fuel when starting and there is defo fuel going into the carb
no holes in the exhaust and pretty sure there are no air leaks (will double check the fuel tank in the morning)

when it does start it acts like its cold as it normally would, i generally have to give it some throttle to get it going initially. i have the throttle trim set up and let that sit there for a bit before taking it back to normal. once its running it runs excellent, pinch test is normal, nice blue smoke, shifts into 2nd quick and does wheelies all day. so i dont think its the tune.

IDEAS?

Maybe it is just me but I think 2 seconds in each is a bit too much and it is almost flooding the engine. I typically do less than a second Just a quick short blast in each then turn it over to make sure it is lubed up well. Try putting in a bit less and see how that does for you.

+1 to what Joey said, also do you open/close the throttle and turn it over after spraying the WD-40 in?

Yeh will do next time.

Yes I open throttle and turn it over

For overnight storage you can just put the piston at bdc. The best way to after run with WD is to spray it in like you normally do, then turn the truck upside down and spin the motor a few times with the plug still out. That helps flush out the nitromethane and methanol, but won't flood you out either.
Just make sure the area around the glow plug is clean first.

Mmmmk. I'll give that a go today and run it again tomorrow without wd40 tonight.

yeh its generally 50-90% humidity here but i keep it in the garage which is a fair bit cooler.

i just dumped some fuel through the plug hole to flush out the wd40 and kicked over the motor without the plug in to get it all back out again. primed up the line and kicked it over. couple turns and it started. much quicker than yesterday.... ill either keep putting wd40 in at night and flushing it out with fuel or just leave it depending on the weather.

You shouldn't have to flush the wd out with fuel, just pull the engine over a few times so the excess wd comes out.

yeh, i did that and not much came out. so i just figured id put a dash of fuel in there to be certain...

You use the WD-40 to "clean" the Nitro out, Nitro attracts moisture. After running, pull the air filter and plug spray the WD-40 into the carb for a sec while working the throttle and then in the plug hole for a sec, replace air filter with a clean and oiled one, then turn the engine over a few times to work the WD-40 around. When you're done put the piston at BDC and replace the plug, if you do this you should be ready to go.

That's basically what I was saying^^, but flip the truck upside down with the plug out and pull the engine over to remove the excess wd-40 and nitro mix. That way it'll be protected and should still fire up easily.

Having a little excess WD in there isn't bad. Like stated above the point of the "after run process" is to get the fuel (which causes rust) out of the cylinder. I can always tell when I don't put my after run oil in. It's a pain to start, if it'll even start. All I do then is pull the plug, run a little oil in the cylinder and normally it fires right up. I'm a firm believer in following the after run methods to the T.

And I agree, 2 seconds is a little much. A little squirt and turn it over a few times. Do these 2-3 times and you're golden. I usually remove the fuel line from the tank just to be certain it doesn't pull anything at all

I was using wd40 like traxxas suggested, but I was haveing a hard time starting up too, so I just use the after run oil and have no problems starting.

Yessir you can. Essentially that's all after run oil is anyways. You can call Traxxas and talk to someone to verify (or I'm sure someone will chime in).

excellent. so what 2/3 drops in each hole and turn motor over and be done with it?

All I really do is pull the glow plug, put a few drops, stand it up, spin it over (with the glow plug out) and do that 2-3 times. Then put glow plug in and call it good.

I usually let my engines idle out, then try to fire them up with the fuel line unhooked. That way there's little or no nitromethane and methanol left inside.

i generally let mine run out of fuel. then yeh spin it a few times with wd but might try the 4 in 1 oil today.

just started it up then, left it over night with no afterrun maintenance. primed the fuel line and bam started, idled fine... so iv stored it away with half dozen drop of 4 in 1 oil in it, tried to drop it back out the glow hole but nothing came out. left piston at bdc and will try again this avo in about 8-10hrs
