I am building my SS and I am trying to put the stock steering servo together. I am following these instructions:

I slid the plastic semi-circle part 85051 (13) all the way down into base part 85051 (8). What am I supposed to do with the silver colored metal part 85051b? I tried to open it up and fit it around the plastic semi circle I put inside the plastic base but the only thing I accomplished was I cut up my thumbs. I could probably use snap ring pliers to get that metal ring on, but I am not sure if it is supposed to fit around the outside of the plastic semi circle I put in the base.

Where is this metal ring supposed to go?

According to the instruction manual...it's supposed to go around the little plastic thing. It'll help if you wedge something to spread the metal part out a bit.

Also, this probably won't make any sense. But you see the part that's open on the metal circle thingie. Try putting the part across from it on first. Just let it kinda slide into the plastic semi-circle. The closed part will be hanging. Then take a hammer and gently hit the open part and it "should" slide right in.

Save some frusteration, and go buy a Kimbrough servo saver. That one blows!

joneser4u is absolutely correct. Save yourself a headache and just go buy a Kimbrough, that servo saver is a piece of crap.

If you really want to use it, the metal ring is the tension part of the saver, it goes between the two plastic halves of the saver. Look in the pic, the groove where the arrows point is where the metal ring goes.

Then the smaller plastic piece snaps on to the other half with the spring in it.

But seriosly consider the Kimbrough during the build, it's easier to put it on now and avoid the frustration of a crappy servo saver, as well as the work to replace it later.

I was able to pop the silver spring on with a pair of snap ring pliers. I can see why you guys say that this part is a piece of garbage. It does not seem like it will help the servo very much.

If I go with a Kimbrough would I use a small, medium, or larger? Do I also need to upgrade the throttle servo saver?

i use the large Kimbrough with my hi tech 945 seems to be hold up just fine!!only about 6.00$

What would be the result of running the stock servo saver? Maybe possible steering servo failure?

From what I can tell so far in my build I would be able to swap the servo saver after the build is complete with a Kumbro with very little work. Is that true?

You will have alot of slop in the steering, causing inconsistant steering and at times no steering at all, that was my experiance untill I sprung for the Kimbrough. Changing the servo saver is a PITA while its on the truck, true you can see everything just fine but getting to it with tools is the hard part.
