Power Source?

what kind of power suppy or power source do you guys use for your starter boxes?


What kind of batteries or ?? i see a starter box like this http://www.duratrax.com/caraccys/dtxp5000.html and it has 2 leads comming out of it. What do they hook to?

The leads coming out are to connect to an external 12v power source, such as a car battery etc.

I use a 12v gel cell in my starter boxes. They last a long time and store a lot of juice. Yup, they are heavy, but why not get a workout.

I use a similar box, it's just not convertable to 10th scale like that one. I also use a 12v hobby battery in mine and like christian pointed out it's heavy but I've never once had the thing die on me, they hold a lot of juice. My box started four buggies at the races all day and showed no signs of slowing down.

A friend of mine was using dual 3000Mah 6 cell packs in his box and they only lasted about 10 min of trying to get his engine started. We quick charged them and tried again but it still only lasted about 10 min.

Now, the engine is brandie new and not fully broken in yet so we knew it wouldnt start on the first try but the batteries kept dying before we ever got a chance.

I run twin 1800 stick packs with an Ofna purple box (same motor as christians pic, but 1/8 only) and it worked fine for me when I had the ol OS v01b - and usually lasted a day or two great, but now with the nova based engines the starterbox seems to get a rougher workout, i might have to jump on a gelcel.

Quick q:

While we're talking about starterboxes, I don't know if anyone can help me here, but my powerpanel on my box stopped working *breaks down and cries*

When I plug in my glow ignitor, it doesn't light up my plug. and the ignitor is fine, i've tested it with a 1.5v batt and works fine.

when i stick my multimeter on the two terminals (or on the end of the ignitor with it plugged in), it reads 1.9v no worries, but when I plug it into a plug, it doesn't light up or nothing

can someone help me?

Short cicruit SOMEWHERE I would assume.

Maybe the glo connector itself is spent.

Is this the one you are using????

Yep that is my powerpanel, and that is pretty much what my ignitor is like too.

I've used the ignitor/connector with other 1.5v sources and it works fine so its something wrong with the powerpanel itself

like I said, measured at the two yellow points, my multimeter reads 1.9v no worries (but like when i plug something in, it just doesn't work), so I'm thinking theres no shorts, and everything but the powerpanel works fine.

Need to ask some electronics expert...
