My parents say that I only can get a trx pro because its stock all the other engines i said like the cvrx or the fantom will insantly strip tranny gears and spur gears a twist shafts, so i said can i get it ported and they said yes, so i called up traxxas they said no and the guy sounded like he never heard of porting and so i call my hobby shop and the guy said he was fairly new to it so he would only do it to my old engine. so i wanted to know if anybody else does porting.

Retread, what the HELL do you mean you can't beat a ported TRX? What no link to porting on your site, lol. Ok just kidding, just busting your chops, actually I have one I am porting now. I was a small engine mechanic for many years and have a steady hand with a dremel so I figured what the hell. Retread if I do it correctly is the difference that noticable? Heres the article I have been using as reference.

It is DEFINITELY noticeable - seriously. I had one done by Jesse and tested one by Hebron Performance. Jesse's was pretty good, probaly about 30% more power.

Bill Hoskin's (Hebron Performance) was incredible. Bill is a high performance racing engine (big V-8's) mechanic, wrench and gee whiz kind of guy. Back to back performance comparison between his ported TRX and my O.S. CV-RX...the Ported TRX JUST nudged out the CV-RX. That's a powerfull statement, and I'll stand by it. Notice I didn't say "NOTHING BEATS IT"??

BTW - I've got reviews of both porting jobs (with some pics) on my site...if you care to take a look.

As a matter of fact I think I will check it out, what no direct link ;)
I already started this one myself so I am gonna hope for the best, so far so good (I think), I guess I will find out soon enough. What is the aprox. cost of getting one done. Another worry I have is my TRX ran so hot before, and I am wondering what kind of temps it will have now?

The only way you will do the kind of damage to your power train that you mentioned is if you do not set it up properly or leave a weak link. I have yet to strip a single gear (tranny, spur or diff). I have overtorqued a few center line drive shafts, but that is because they are my designed weak links; and I was driving the truck pretty hard. I run a Fantom .15.

The theory about Porting and engine temps...you've got more and better fuel flow through the engine, so it actually runs cooler. My experience is that at the very least, ported engines do run at least a little cooler than stock (about 10 degrees). It's a VERY subjective observation though, because you might be running the exact same engine - but it's been modded so much!

Well if that is the case Mike just wait till the 2.5 comes out it is stock replacement made by TRX ;)

Thats a good idea, but they say that i'd have to buy the new chassies, the driveshafts, the ez-start 2, and the supenshen. then i can have the 2.5, but that was the case i would just sell my old one and get the new one

Seems your parents know an awful lot about RC models.

Please note that was said with all the sarcasm I can muster.

If your folks are going to limit your engine upgrade/replacement to a "stock" engine and then place the limitations that you must get the "NEW" stock parts in order to get the "NEW" stock engine, sell your old truck and just buy the "NEW" T-Maxx...and save yourself a lot of time and trouble.

maybe i don't know about the whole 2.5 deal. but the funny thing is , is that my dad thinks my t-maxx is GREAT and my mom thinks its the WORST thing i ever saw. so my da was talking to my mom and it was like, oh lets get mike that os engine he wants
and my mom, no! its not stock there for it wont work
then hours later my dad wants me to get a 1/8th scale buggy and him the terra crusher or that 1/5 scale car with the weed waker engine. that would be cool, but it wont happen, my mom gets in the way befor my dad makes it to the hobby shop, oh well.

Mike you know you could always have your mom or dad come on here and ask some questions. I have seen it on MaxxTraxx before where parents have gotten online and informed themselves. That way we could possibly answer some of the questions they have.
As far as an OS engine goes the CV-RX short shaft is a direct dropin motor. You don't have to cut the shaft or anything. Just remove your old motor and install the new one.

Not for nothing, but when you get married, MAKE SURE YOU ARE THE ONE WHO WEARS THE PANTS IN THE HOUSE!!!!
