Somewhere along the lines on my vacation I managed to pick up poison ivy. I noticed a small patch yesterday, and put on some Calomine lotion but was wondering if anyone had any other remedies that worked really good. Kinda makes me nervouse because last time I had it, I got it SUPER bad. I had it in my eyes, my throat, on my junk.. It was everywhere.. I had to get 3 steroid shots on 3 seperate occasions.. It was nuts.. So I really wanna get a handle on it before it spreads like crazy. Lemme know if ya guys have any pointers. Thanks!

I heard that making a paste out of baking soda and hot water and putting it on the affected area works.

Haven't tried it myself since I have never had it.

Stop touching it and it won't spread, when you scratch it then touch another part of your body you are spreading it. I have never had it but I have heard caladryl is good....Calamine with tendril in it.

Good luck bro and DON"T TOUCH!

We have poison oak here, it's actually way worse. Most Evil Plant Ever.

It may be too late, but the first defense against either is to get the oils out of your skin, this is what makes it spread. Go to your RX and get a bottle of Technu. This is like a soap, but it breaks the chemical bond with your skin and gets all the poison oak/ivy out so scratching doesn't spread it. You put it over all affected areas, wait at least one minute, then hop in the shower. You're supposed to wash it off with cool water, so that the hot water doesn't allow the molecules to re-bond with your skin.

After that, use Lanacane to stop the itching, this is the only thing I've found that will stop further inflamation of infected areas. Calamine lotion and baking powder paste only dry out the skin, which makes it more itchy, and don't really help at all.

Take it from a long time Poison Oak Soldier, we moved to this house and it was in the middle of a sea of poison oak, my wife is **extremely** succeptible to it.

I've heard some people use Bleach - but if you go this route be sure to dilute it with water.

I hear that if you take off all your cloths and run around the campground / Hotel lobby yelling I'm on fire!, I'm on fire! It will make you feel better.

Otherwise they make Poison oak / Ivy medicine you can get at the drugstore.

Bummer!

i could roll around in both, poison ivy and oak for hours and not be harmed by it.

well, best of luck on clearing it up man

I'm absolutely immune to it. My neighbors always get me to pull it up.
Bleach works if you use it immediately to remove the oils. Once the itching and blistering starts it's not a good thing to do.
Calamine lotion is useless, but it's pretty, if you like being pink.
Go to the drugstore and ask for "Colagenated Oatmeal Soap". It will dry it out overnight.
The other cure is to roll naked in hot asphalt. Actually, that's not a cure, but the intense burning will take your mind off the itching.

Man I am really allergic to it... the last time i got it I was even on my Johnson... LOL.....

I had poison ivy, once. It was between my fingers, but it didn't itch, or anything.

My uncle swears up and down by bleach. He will scratch it till its all female pee pee and then pour it directly on it..
Last time I had it so bad I was willing to try anything, so I dumped a good amount into the bathtub and just soaked in it. It actually dried everything out pretty good. Hurt like poop though.. I was kinda suprised it didnt bleach my pubies..lol

Mythbusters did a segment on this a while back. Vodka helps take away the itch. Either douse it on the rash, or take a few shots of it. Either way, it'll help you get over it rather quickly.

I posted this on another forum and theres a guy telling me to use carb cleaner.. Say it will be gone it 2 days.. lol.. I dont care if it works (well at this point, later maybe Id try anything). doesn't sound good for the blood stream though..lol

Thanks for all the helpful tips fellas. Havnt found any new spots as of today, so so far so good.

I'm gonna see if they have that at my local drug store. Thats the 3rd person whos recommended that. Thanks!!

I've found shaving the pubes works much better, for one you don't have to worry about discoloring them when using bleach and two it makes your johnson look bigger!
