Well guys,

I ended up with my fathers Stampede XL5. He bought an Emaxx 2 months after he bought the Pede, and since then he has never run it. So he offered it to me. I took it thinking it would be just another to adorn the shop and something to run for fun. The two wheel drive MT is a blast too. Well I got to looking at it, and thinking... how could I improve this? Of course the first thing that came to mind... Brushless! (Fill in your favorite evil laugh!) I know Traxxas has a BL setup in a Pede already, but I figured it would be a fun project non the less. Well it looks like it will need alot of work before I will be able to put something like a BL motor in it. I figure CVD's, Diff gears, Transmission gears, Bearings, Ti rods, and hinge pins, not to mention some RPM love. Well since I don't know to much about a Pede and what kind of Hopups out there, I am open to suggestions. Take care guys.

Tom

If your going brushless then a wheelie bar will be a must.

Most definitely! LOL

I figure it can't be that hard. Just upgrade all the trans and diff parts with what they put in the VXL model and all should be well. Does anybody know how many turns in the Vilineon 3500 BL motor? The reason I ask is probably because I am going to go with a Novak equivalent.

Tom

I've a feeling the Novak setup will be a boatload more powerful. You're definitely going to have to upgrade the trans gears to metal, and throw some MIP CVD's on it.

Post some pics up when ya do the build; I'm curious to see how the truck will hold up to brushless.

Does the newer Pede comes with 5x11 wheel bearings, if it doesn't get new RPM carriers. The weakest link on a Pede is the caster blocks up front and the plastic idler gear...RPM makes caster blocks and Traxxas makes an aluminum idler gear. The rest of the truck is pretty solid IMO. The only other part I broke was a rear shock mount, and I tortured my pede with massive jumps and high speed flips......They call it the pit bull of rc's for a reason.

If I wouldn't have developed a hatred for electric I would build another one.

Almost forgot, you might want to widen the front end so you can run the same wheel offset all the way around.

Thanks for the imput guys... I will let you know when all of this will start. I am still in the process of building my TC4 so it will be a little while before I can get this going. I figure maybe the end of the year, or the begining of next. Sounds like a good winter project.

Hey SMaxxin... how would one go about widening the front? This sounds like something I would need to do.

Tom

He did an article in the projects section and if I remember correctly he used Jato front arms on it.

I used all Jato stuff. If ya have any ? about how I did it, throw me a PM.

Thanks PS I will definitely ask if I have any questions. It was kinda neat to have my father show up and ask me if I wanted it. I figured what the heck! I know the Pede isn't a race RC, or even a popular choice, but it is a blast to drive and I figured it would be a neat project.

Tom

The e pede is not a popular choice on this site but it is a very popular truck with plenty of upgrades available and it is one of the most durable rc's you can get.

You know, I have never messed with one until my father bought his... but man was it a blast! I had my doubts too. LOL In fact when my dad asked me if I wanted it... I didn't even hesitate. I was all over it.

One question though... if I upgrade to Lunsford Ti Tierods and hingepins... how in the heck to I get them on the truck? Do I need to get ball studs? Thanks

Tom

Yup. Dont get then yet, you will want to widen it in one way or another, and I used standard Traxxas tmaxx turnbuckles.

Go to the traxxas site, they keep the Pede alive and well, a TON of info there.

The E-Pede is a fun little durable truck. I got my oldest son one when he was about 4, he has crashed it in to everything and it has held up great. Now he decided he wants a nitro, so I am working on getting a maxx together for him and the pede will go to my youngest son as soon as the maxx is finished.

That sounds like fun NC. Dad didn't have it long enough to break it before he got his Emaxx. So he left it for me to break! LOL

I will have to read into this whole widening thing.... PS... you say there is info on how to widen it on Traxxas site? Thanks guys.

Tom

Scroll to the right. I used this set up on three different pedes and never had a problem with it and never broke it.....My brushlesspede was always airborne! The shopping list gives you two options on the arms, I always used the RPM arms.

Good luck Tom!

Thanks digger... I am going to need it! LOL with the new bundle coming soon... I don't know if I will be able to make this one a reality..... but never say never! If there is a way to pull it off I will figure it out. Winter is fast approaching! LOL
