Pico .26 - worth it to upgrade from Savage .25?

Is it worth it to upgrade to the Pico Outlaw .26 from the stock .25? Is there a noticable difference in power? Thanks

I don't know what you are comparing the Picco .26 to. I have a Stock Savage 25 and never ran it against a Picco .26. From what I read, the Picco .26 would walk (maybe run!) away from me.

If you have a .21 and want to upgrade, I would say go for it. If you have a .25 already, the decision may be harder. I am hearing that the Picco is a bear to initially tune, but once it's tuned in it is OK.

This brings me to my next topic, the WASP. If you are interested in the Picco .26 look at the Orion WASP .26 (the price at Tower is great). Some say they are the exact same engine as the Picco .26. Others are saying that they are different. (Can anyone shed some factual light on this?) Across the board, however, WASP owners are saying that they are easier to tune. In comparing the two engines, this may have something to do with the style of carb. The Picco guys say the black carb is easier to tune than the silver (I may have this backwards). I think the WASP only comes with the black - so that MAY be the core issue right there. At any rate, I have my eye on a WASP - once I get my fill of the stock 25 - which is doin the trick for me now.

Okay these are the engine I've used on my Savage:

HPI 21BB
OFNA Force 25
OFNA Force 26
Team Orion WASP 26

These are the engines my Friends are running

HPI S-25
OFNA Picco Outlaw 26
21 Hyper 8

If you have a HPI 21BB, any of these motors above will blow it away.

I had used the OFNA Force .26 then switched over to WASP 26 and there was a MAJOR Difference

the OFNA Picco Outlaw 26 and WASP 26 are the same motor. My friend is running one and we are side by side, one is not better than the other

The S-25 ran against 21bb and blew that away. Reason being that I work near a my LHS and I've been helping them sell Savages left and right. Plus everyday around 2pm we all meet up for our break and run the trucks in the lot and more and more customers are coming to watch and buy.

When I had my 21bb I too was thinking, "is there a major difference from a HPI 21bb w/ 2.3 HP engine vs a WASP 26 w/ 2.7HP engine"... the answer is YES!!

Thanks for the initial responses. I didn't metion what I currently have. The current truck is a stock Savage .25

TRDStreetFighter: Out of curiosity, what are your impressions of the Hyper 8 port on the Savage?

If you read between the lines of TRDStreetFighter, he's basically saying the picco stomps them all (including the S25). The S 25 is the OFNA force .25 engine. The picco .26 beats the force.25 and hence it beats the S25.

There is only one engine that you can bolt into a savage that's faster than a picco .26...

That's an EBMods modified Picco .26. Ed Bridges of EBMods sells this engine modified and he will also modify yours if it's brand new or newly rebuilt. He has so many order for the EBMods Picco .26 that people are sitting on backorder while my LHS waits to get them in.

RobH: Yes, the Picco/Wasp .26 is understandably fast, as he mentioned and that can't be questioned.

However, from my limited R/C knowledge, I was under the impression the Hyper .21 8 port puts out more than the Force's/.25 savage. Correct me if I am wrong.

I simply wanted to know how well the .21 8 poirt does in the savage, already knowing the Picco/Wasp kill it. Basically, is the 8 port right below the big dogs in terms of power output in these savages?

The 8-port is a good "race legal" engine that you can purchase for not much money. ROAR or one of those other racing authorities has basically said that in their races, you much run with a .21 engine. For this reason, the 8-port is pretty attractive race engine for the price. If you don't care about being race legal (especially in a Monster Truck), get the Picco .26 or the Wasp .26 clone.

I'm not trying to knock the 8-port. A lot of people put them in the Savage trucks and love them. I have the 8-port Race in my buggy. It has a lot of balls for the price.

Rob, sounds good man.....Thanks for the straight info....

That wasp .26 sure looks attractive in both a savage or 1/8 buggy!

The Hyper 21 8 port is a good motor for legal racing... straight up bashing either stick with the HPI S-25 if you have one already or get a Outlaw/WASP .26 not the Force .26... yeah the Force motors do not line up you have to get adjustable engines mounts.. but the Outlaw and Wasp can use the stock motor mounts..
