I have a Picco .26 for my revo 3.3

I replaced the 3.3 engine and the picco pushes the car fine

heres the problem

if i start the car and leave it idle for a few mins the temp is around 70-80c

if i race the temp was going 150-200c!!!!!!!! ( i actually nuked a few glow plugs)

The Picco is on factory baseline/settings out of the box

I did try yesterday to turn the low speed needle anti-clockwise which which made it run around 75c but then it was cutting out as the screw was nearly all the way out.

The car does seem like it wants to roll forward at idle.

It seems to be very rich though as well (see video)

Any ideas?? I can see the idle needle but this is VERy hard to get to when the engine is mounted in the Revo.....

Any tuning advice would be great

You need to run a good gallon of fuel before the engine is ready for a performance tune. Chances are the engine is still too tight and your heat is coming from pushing it too hard too fast. There is a tuning guide at the top of the linked page for when it's ready.

Yes. Agreed.

My idle was quite erratic too, but after a while it settled right down. I bet I'd gotten a food 15 tanks through it.

Run 5ltrs through it now and the pinch is still mega, enough to break my EZ start lol.
 
They use a billet piston and the chrome is extremely hard, it does take a while to break-in but it will also last a long time because of this.
 
I hope so.

Although I need to replace my conrod already, I have a little bit of play in the bottom bush. Been advised by Ofna to change it just as a matter of precaution. I was told it is not uncommon after break in.

Anyhow, it's not expensive and not hard to do, so I have ordered the parts to change it out.
 
It is a good idea if there is any play, it doesn't take long for that little bit to turn into a lot. First sign is that you start going through plugs.
 
Well, I'll give this Picco one thing (and I say this touching wood). I have never damaged a Glow Plug. Whereas my Trx 3.3 used to eat them.

It's just a little "notchy" for want of a better word when at TDC and I turn my flywheel. So I stripped it apart to check it out. It is only a slight amount though. I'd probably be ok for a bit longer, but don't think it's worth risking.
 
A little skip at TDC is normal, especially when cold and tight still. As long as your not screaming it out, I would run it until the engine is broken in, just keep an eye on it and you can do that by removing the back-plate and giving it a wiggle. They are beefy rods so it's not likely to just let go if your only driving it like you should for break-in lol.
 
lol, how much do you reckon it needs to be run in? I thought at 5ltrs I'd be there. I do really like this engine.
 
Break-in isn't determined by how much fuel has been run, it's how much the mechanical pinch has been reduced. Most picco's will really show their potential once about two gallons have been run through. You can definitely drive it hard and enjoy it, I would just keep the extended high rpm runs to a minimum until most of the pinch is gone and the rod has been swapped, then let it rip. I would also do the bearings when you do the rod and be done with it for a good many gallons.

Ah, I've got my eyes on a set of Boca Ceramic Bearings currently on EBay. Looks like another feedback on my way lol.

What fuel would you recommend? Bearing in mind I'm in the UK. Currently using Byrons Race 2500. Was thinking of trying Byrons 3000 next. But I can get 5ltrs of Optifuel Race 30% for the same price. 5ltrs is 32% more than in the Byrons bottle. The Optifuel is only 9% oil content though.
 
What is the "pinch" you guys are referring to?
 
I run sidewinder race pro or strike team, one has 10% oil and the other 8%. I have no experience with the fuel your running so I can't comment but 9% oil sounds good, you don't really need anything over 8%.
 
IMO you should always have some amount of castor oil in the mix, it starts to protect when the synthetic starts to fail. I would get a pint of this and add 2 OZ per jug of fuel, it will add about 1% to the current mixture. You don't "need" to add the castor but it will give you some peace of mind.

There's that brand again lol Klotz. That's the lubricant in the Optifuel, although its synthetic.

Thanks for the link. Think I may pick up a bottle. Better to be safe than sorry.
