I'm digging around about the Picco 27 and found this quote on another board...

"the picco .27 runs identical to the k4.6 .28 they both run exactly the same except the picco .27 has a little more torque. My next engine will be the k4.6 as soon as it gets on the exchange list."

How accurate is this statement in terms of comparing the .27 to the hpi .28...Any truth to it?

I've looked at some cars and noticed that people got full slide extension at half throttle on the radio. I've also seen cases where the slide did not start to move off idle until the throttle trigger is half through its travel.

The slide movement should coincide exactly with the throttle trigger movement. Trims, Sub trims, and End points are critical.

Thanks for the advice rossb, I checked my radio and at right around 1/2-3/4 trigger the carb is fully open. I'll adjust with my radio tonight and see if the "on off" effect goes away. Now on to rcdocuments.com to find my manual....

That will certainly help but you also have too much motor for your gearing. Your current 16/49 gearing and stock shift point is going to result in a very fast and short first gear. Gear up to 18/47 and adjust the shift point so that it occurs at high RPM with the new gearing. This will make a huge difference. You will get more MPH in first gear and the power will be very usable. You should also get the 9mm insert from Nitrohouse.

BTW - When you make a major gearing change you have to adjust the shift point if you want the shift to still occur at high engine RPM. The shift point is based on transmission internal shift hub RPM, which is based on output shaft rotation and road speed. If you gear up and don't adjust the shift point then you will still be shifting at the same road speed, which will be a much lower engine RPM with the taller spur/bell combo.

Weekend update:

I ran about 2 quarts with the 9mm carb insert with odonnels 99 plug and byrons 30%. The 9mm insert really tamed the low end. There is still a lot of low end punch but now it is more controllable. For the price this engine has excellent performance. Hot starts are still easy and it usually starts on the first or second pull. I've learned to not flood the engine with fuel so the one way issues have disappeared.

I'm just a little over a gallon on this engine and very happy with it.

The motor should pick up more power after you burn some more fuel. Mine seemed like it started to produce top power after about 6 or 7 quarts.

my picco27 w a 3speed is very strong w/ 18/47 gears and yes very picky on plugs.... for me it likes the mc coy mc59 i have approx a gallon thru it and it seems like it gets stronger w/ each tank some of this depends on your break-in I did the heat cycle break-in and they claim the motor really comes to life after a gallon to a gallon and a 1/2 I would stay far away from the wasp28 yes it makes a ton of power but the 28 has so many problems with air leaks from the backplate the the front bearing I did have one of these for about 1/2 gallon and I sealed and re-sealed everything on that motor and it still had problems I am not the only one w/ those problems (go to savage central.com in their motor forum they have a HUGH thread on this motor, some 150 replies) my LHS was really good to me on this wasp28, they took it back, gave my moneyn back and ordered me the picco27 The picco 27 is as easy to use and tune as the s-25 but tons of more grunt and power..... dont forget to change clutch shoes..... go alum.
