Picco .27??? Help please

I have a revo i am running a 2.5r sadly since i broke my 3.3. I have a deal on a picco .27 for 100 dollars. It has had roughly three gallons ran through. should i buy it? And how good will it run? Thanks guys!
 
for a hundred bucks i'd jump on it, and how good it runs will depend on how well its sealed up and how good you are at tuning it, but i have a picco .26 maxx on my revo and i love it so the .27 should be just as good if not a little better
 
Used engines are always a crap shoot. I've never heard of a .27 picco(that's not saying much), but I'd sure as heck make certain that it will fit right. Crank has to be the right, the exhaust has to exit in the right direction. Others will be able to chime in with some more info on this. $100 is roughly half the price of a .26 Maxx, but you may end up with half the engine. People have been known to lean piccos too early.

I got my picco 26 for 159.00 new on ebay with a pull start. and all you need is a engine mount.
 
The Picco 27's came and went really quickly while the Picco 26 (in the guise of the .26Max) still survives.
A well known modifier told me that the .27 sleeve is very thin, won't take the heat, and is hard on the front bearing.

I agree with Metalhead Matt - used engines are a crapshoot.
You can buy a new .26 Maxx which is made for the Revo for under 200.
Personally, I'd go the new engine route...
 
Yup I really wish I'd found a 26 for 159 I'd have bought it. I wanted the picco but I got my s27 for 159....Should be ok it's Italian....LQTM.
 
Well... It looks like I'm gonna be purchasing a .26 new. Thanks for the help guys you probably saved me a hundred dollars and a ton of frustration.

You can't be faulted for overlooking that particular engine Revo - and no need to apologize either. The 27 was off the market after one season.
One of those if you blinked you missed it type of deals. lol
What I thought was funny is that the Ofna website still says "This engine will be replacing the Picco .26".

I wish the os .18 tm was still around I like the idea of a smaller engine that kicks 3.3's ass.
 
I also like it when a smaller engine can dominate larger mills.
I've had no personal experience with either the OS 18 or the Traxxas 3.3, but if the 3.3 is anything like the 2.5, it's internals (such as the crankshaft) are somewhat crude and nowhere near optimized. It does however make a nice inexpensive platform for a modder to apply some magic too though. lol

I have an altered Traxxas 2.5 that runs like a scalded cat. It may not have the torque of the 3.3, but it's a lot stouter than stock, and it cranks out a bunch of extra RPM's too.
I'm also very interested in the new 2.5 that Novarossi is selling which is made specifically for the Revo or TMaxx...

BTW - There's an OS 18 TM that's available on eBay...

yeah i know what you mean as far as if you blink you miss it, and thank you, and as far as it "replacing the picco .26" i don't think that would ever happen

I just went to ebay and bid the guy up on it. 18 dollar shipping I'm not gonna go over 100 bucks.
